I've got a quick question regarding the flap settings for the F6F-3 & 5.

I don't have a Pilots Manual for either, but I do have the WWII training video and the wonderful book 'America's Hundred Thousand'.

Now in the WWII training film, it says that the flaps have no intermediate positions, so are fully up or down (48 deg).

However, AHT says that they could be set at intermediate positions, and says that usually 20 deg was used for take off.

So, did they introduce intermediate positions on the later -3 & -5 or is AHT incorrect? :?

Cheers

Paul

I believe the flaps could be stopped in any position by moving the flap handle to neural. There was no set middle stop. The T-6 is the same way, full up or down by handle, but can be stopped anywhere in between by moving the handle to neural.

I used to fly 79863 occasionally and the flaps were controlled with a toggle switch in the cockpit and you had your choice of "up" or "down", nothing in between.

Thats the way that LSFM's F6F-5 is set up also. The hydraulic valve is electrically actuated.
