Hey Tom!
When are you going to get tired of those attractions? A little golden skin from a shady viewing spot with one of those drinks with an umbrella in it...Aaaaaaaa, what a life.
Have fun, Tom

Not that I looked very hard, but I didn't see anything in PC when I was there. However, you will more than likely be landing in Santo Domingo, and there is (or at least was until recently) a boneyard containing a C-46, a Connie or two and some other types both old and oldish. You will be able to see this from the aircraft when you arrive & depart, depending on which side of the plane you are on.

Might be worth exploring, and if you do please take some pics for us :wink:

Here is some pics I turned up on Airliners.net:

cheers & have a nice trip!

I'm going to Punta Cana in a week.
Most flights to Punta Cana don't go to Santo Domingo, they fly directly to Punta Cana's airport. (Been there 4 times) It's a long bumpy drive to Santo Domingo, and though they have a P-51 and some others on display at the AF Base, I wouldn't know how to go about contacting them for a look see. There's even a boneyard on the North side of the AF Base, but I would imagine you'd have to know somebody to get a close look.

yup, you're right, it's been a while since I was there. We stayed at a resort near Santo Domingo before driving to another resort in Punta Cana, from where we flew back home, but not before stopping at Santo Domingo again, where the aircarft was stuck on the tarmac for three hours while one after another empty fuel truck came out to replenish the aircraft. I always suspected that the Air Transat guy who's responsibility it was to pay the airport bribe actually pocketed the cash himself...did I mention that there was no power onboard at the time, so no a/c...people were freaking out and passing out after about 15 minutes in that heat. And yeah the ride from SD to PC was pretty rough, more so for all the abject poverty we drove through.

cheers

Guys, these were shot by my former flight instructor, a few years back. I have no clue as to the ease of access to the area, if at all.

I think that these airplanes are at the International Airport in Santo Domingo, DR.

There are apparently two airports at Santo Domingo. The International Airport, about 15 miles east of town, on the coast, which appears on Google maps to be relatively new; and an older one closer to town, and inland, which has the boneyard.

The coordinates of the boneyard are 18 30 21.00 N 69 45 58.00 W

The resolution on Google at the new airport was poor, so no detail was seeable. The resolution at the coordinates above was pretty good.

Regards,

Walt

Tom;
I'm in Punta Cana in the DR right now and have a tough time leaving the beach, topless girls and all the rum!
You probably can get a taxi or someone to drive you to Santo Domingo cheap, but why would you want to leave and go see some old antiques? :lol:

By the way...what's a "warbird"?

Glenn;
Yes, Ginny is with me and knows it all!!! (and even right now she's on the computer next to me!)
Actually, we make fun of some of the boobs! (many are a site to see and pretty scary!)
Not a lot of 20 yr. olds running around! :(
I will make sure I shave particularly close next time I see you so that your slap can be enjoyed to it's fullest!

By the way, there are so many Canadians here, I thought you might show up at talent night!

Tom;
We are staying at the Occidental Allegro Bavaro, about 20 min. from the Punta Cana Airport. Nice place, but in the past we've stayed at the Occidental Grand Flamenco closer to where you'll be. I like it there a little better, but this is still great!
