For Rick and gang when the power comes back on...

Saw the CF A-4 comfortably stashed away in Dallas today. She looked happy!

Well... :?
My family and I made out ok. The power came back on last night here at the office at the IAH airport but still no power at home. Trees are uprooted and scattered everywhere and power lines are down still. I saw the aerial footage over the museum yesterday morning and it didnt look good at all. Its all very sad... the Island and the museum won't be the same for a long time!

ATTN DOUG R. ...have you heard from Tom Crawford?

This from the museum website...

September 14, 2008 10:00 a.m. - Galveston, Texas

All museum staff are safe following passage of Hurricane IKE.

Damage to the museum is substantial. The extent of the damage has yet to be assessed by LSFM officials and staff. As soon as the preliminary assessment has been made we will post information here. As soon as possible we will let you know about reorganization and reopening.

Prior to IKE’s arrival, pilots were able to fly the following aircraft out of harm’s way: B-17, B-25, DC-3,P-47, F6F, F4U, SBD, AT-11, P-6 and the F8F.

We want to thank all of our friends and supporters for their thoughts and prayers.

So, according to the inventory list on LSFM's website, the following planes would be the ones remaining on site...

TBM Avenger
PB4Y-2 Privateer
PBY-5A Catalina
PV-2 Harpoon
SNJ
PT-17
AD-1 Skyraider
B-58 Hustler
MiG-21
C-1A Trader

The Skyraider made it out before the storm.

We're glad to hear you're safe, Trae.

Thanks!

LSFM employees and volunteers have been checking in on the museums Egroup. People are scattered around the state but everyone seems to be doing ok under the circumstances.

Hopefully "Airnutz" has gotten to higher ground, all the best to him

Thanks Tom...now the shoe is on the other foot..I hope you and all other Wixers are well and turnup soon.

I almost had time to reply to your reply that morning but had to log off and wasn't able to return. I spent
most of my time hauling tools to higher ground for the upcoming cleanup and recovery from this disaster.

Left the West shore with the last load which was personal effects and survival gear Friday 6:30 PM over
Kemah bridge after 30 hrs straight hustle. Glad I made that last run, because I've been living out the back
of the pickup since. Old Boys Scouts never die..they just keep getting better.

My apartment is still there, but it looks like Tarawa after the battle(without the corpses)...and then someone ran
thru it with a tiller.

Tune to or stream KUHF Houston for an idea of whats going on...Again hope all are well and good luck to all!!!!!

Trae,

If and when you get a chance, let me know what the situation is with the Doolittle display.

As far as I know its still inside the museum. The wing is in Colorado. The only way to get her out was to truck her out, and I dont think they had time.

MAN that would really suck- I was hoping it had gone away as well.

I also noticed someon had the SNJ on the list- Was that still out at an alternate location being painted.

Steve,
I think the SNJ is still over towards Angleton at the paint shop. I didnt have a chance to get to the museum to help out before the storm. Everyone was nuts just getting their own stuff together and battoned down. I have not spoken to the museum staff since the storm. Cell phone service is still in and out and text msges are slow going through.

Ryan,
The Doolittle/Hornet display was in the back of hangar 2 inside the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame. The hornet was sitting on top of a cabinet that was about 3 or 4 feet tall. So it would depend on how much flood water came inside of the hangars. Also during heavy down pours certain spots in hangars 1 & 2 the roof leaks which dont help either. Im not sure how much was pulled out of the TAHF prior to the storm. Up until the last minute the storm was anyones guess as to where is was going to make landfall. All we can do now is just hope for the best.

Gas is very hard to find right now and if you can find it youre going to wait for several hours to get it. 500,000 people just recently had power restored and that still leaves 73% of the Centerpoint Energy customers still without power. Soon as gas supply is back and the island reopens...its just waiting for the call to go in and see what can be done. And who knows how long that will be. :(

I wonder what happened to the F-100 out front of the museum...
