TEXAS RAIDERS is in Colorado Springs from Aug. 8-13th.

I have heard the weather is more pleasant than Houston at the moment.

If you are in the area stop on by for a tour or purchase a ride.

It is a mind-blowing thing- how much an 1820 shakes when a spark plug lead comes loose and starts a cylinder mis-firing!!!
Fortunately that was the only sqwuak on the Colorado Springs trip.

Thanks to the folks at Cutter Aviation, West-Pac and Brent Meyers for their assistance. :drink3:

TEXAS RAIDERS performed two fly-bys at the Air Force Academy and the vets from the 381st got to tour and some got to ride TEXAS RAIDERS.

Next year they are planning their 2012 reunion at Wright-Patterson.

For those astute viewers who have been noticing that Engine #3 seems to be a tad smoky--- You win a Pony. Or at least a picture of a pony...
Please send a stamped self-addressed envelope etc., etc.

Our AH-HA moment was when Cylinder #6 on said Engine #3 did not give the Maintenance Cols. righteous numbers on a compression check dutifully done after the plugs kept fouling.

Spanner, your B-17 engine tribulations sound very familiar. . .

A few years ago, Chuckie was on her takeoff roll and the #2 engine started making "less than ideal" power and doing a lot of shaking. The takeoff was aborted and the ship was taxied back to the ramp. Steve and I investigated the problem after letting the engine cool down. The culprit turned out to be a shattered insulator on a spark plug, causing that one cylinder to misfire.

A couple of years prior to that, our #3 engine was smoking a lot and using a lot of oil, and it kept getting worse. After a particularly smoky flight home from the Denton air show, our intrepid mechanics tore into the engine to find the cause. The problem was that an incorrect set of rings had been installed on the #5 piston when the engine was overhauled. The rings caused excessive wear, which led to replacement of the piston and cylinder. That was a real pisser for us because the slug and jug were both brand new when installed! :x The piston is sitting on my desk here at work, right next to a piston from B-25 Pacific Prowler (quite a sight for the un-initiated!). I think the cylinder ended up with a collector in Germany.

:D Not a half bad idea there Pedro!

TEXAS RAIDERS will be in Huntsville, Texas (UTS) Sept. 23-25, 2011 for Revenue Rides, Tours and generally livening up the locals.

I hope to have Moosejaw Belle there too, but at the very least I will have KERMIT- the Little Green Fun Machine.

Hope to see y'all there!

Cap-Flyer,
I don't know my 20s and 30s engine-ology, but didn't Menasco have a similar engine in the inverted six race?

Either way, the Ranger sounds sweet!
