I think the EADS should buy the lot to fill out there collection so they can go toe to toe with the BoBMF. Could an Allison V-12 be supplemented for the Merlin or DB? Would the Allison fit inside the original cowlings so the aircraft would have the reliability and power of the Allison and the look of an original ME/BF-109?

The short answer (along with several WIX discussions over the years) is that it's not very practical to re-engineer the Allison or the Merlin to run inverted for a Bf 109 installation.

Flugwerk made a lot of effort to fit a custom Allison into a new Fw190D-9, yet it was still upright with a rather intricate exhaust stack setup to maintain the external appearance. That aircraft never left the ground and is targeted for an original engine at some future time.

How about fitting a Roll Royce Kestrel and backdating one to the original design. :D

From SuperCub.org forum:

Connie Edwards Quote in AOPA Pilot

You probably have heard that 80 yr. old flying legend and oil. land & stone entrepreneur Connie Edwards is selling his plane collection, a Spitfire Mk IV, a P-51 Mustang, several Buchons (Spanish built ME109s with Merlins), two PBY Catalinas and a hangar full of Merlin engines. but you might not have read this Connie Edward's quote from the AOPA Pilot:
"Edwards favorite airplane is a blue and white Piper Super Cub with an oversize 180 hp. engine that isn't part of the sale. He's unsentimental about the rest."
NICE

All the Buchons are now showing as 'pending' on the Provenance website.

Very exciting! Sure do hope they end up as flyers. (And at least one in Spanish colors!)

How much of an article is it in "AOPA Pilot"?, I'd like to read it but how would I get hold of a copy in England, any ideas? Thanks.

Platinum Fighter Sales - not Provenance.

Meh, just JB Weld a couple of Chevy V-6's together and flip them over. You're good to go! :D

Anyone have drawings of the DB601?

Press report says the Buchons and Spitfire have been bought by a "European dealer" for almost £10 million. Someone on Flypast says the Mustang was not part of the deal.

"A 1943 Spitfire that actually fought in the Second World War fetched £4million "

...which is a pretty good sales job, considering they were only asking 1.5 mil.

And sold nine Buchon when only advertised six. Thanks to the Bernanke, Connie could get his asking while the Euro guy paid Snickers money. Everybody wins!

Well, don't just sit there - let's start speculating who the "European buyer" could be!

Hopefully EADS. At the rate they go through Buchons, they're gonna need them all!

Think we have a couple of typos.....................................4 million Pounds would be over 6 million U.S. and Connie was asking 2.5 M U.S. not 1.5
