Warbird Information Exchange

I think I remember that mag, it was called Aero News Photo and it only came out in two special editions, a couple of years apart in the early 1980s. Each issue contained a pretty good round up of the number of each type of warbird still extant, with photos of a couple of each. They were a good resource in the years between the last edition of Veteran & Vintage Aircraft and the first edition of the Warbirds Worldwide Directory. I have the well worn copies in the pile somewhere.

You are right August! I dug through the boxes until I found the few issues of Aero News Photo I still have. I don't know how long the magazine was around but I've only got four issues, all from 1984. I distinctly remember buying them at the Piggly Wiggly grocery story in Snyder, Texas when I was a kid.

The picture was taken by Roger Brower and is in the Volume 1/Number 1 issue from 1984. The caption says A B-29 that has just returned to flying status is this ex-Navy P2B-1S that was based at Oakland, CA. N91329, BuNo 84029, was recently bought by warbird collector Kermit Weeks, and is to go to Florida. It is seen here on a test flight, returning to Oakland after a rear hatch came open.
