Apropos of nothing, here's a pic I took of the forward bombay of Bock's Car. Obviously the Silverplate bomb racks are gone, but you can see the modification to the crawlway tube. I understand the connections for some of the Silverplate electronics are still there as well.

Once again the difference between the old administration at the museum of fix only what is visible, to the new of do it right as if it is straight from the facotory. Alot of the aircraft that have been at the museum for years are being re-restored to the higher standards. Some may not like the General, but he is correct about the standards that need to be met even if the parts are for a static only aircraft in an area of an aircraft that is not going to be seen. If you are going to do it, do it right.

Actually, other than the "interior green" paint blasted on the lower areas and bombay doors, the bombay itself looks to be pretty much original, and in excellent condition, considering that the aircraft sat outdoors for many years. All that's really needed is to remove the later repaint and do some general cleaning.

I suppose the museum could replicate all the Silverplate equipment for total authenticity, but frankly for now I think she's OK as-is. The museum has plenty of other aircraft that are in much greater need of attention (that's not a slam..I just mean they have a lot in the restoration que, which is a good thing!)

A lot of work needs to be done here. Obviously, somebody took OD green paint and free-hand gunned it part-way up into the bomb-bay. It has covered o2 bottles, straps, equipment, etc. It would be a chore to remove but needs to be done to return the bomb-bay to it's original appearance...

As much as people don't like the current General, he has raised the bar on restorations. The interior paint in the bombay was done years ago. The rest of the interior is pretty intact and is good shape. Most of it has the light zinc interior. The planes are getting their turn at having restoration go through them, and re do some things to make them more complete. This is done without moving the aircraft, but keeping it on display. When the B-29 gets it's turn, I think we will see this corrected.

revisionist history is like draining a pond with a strainer. i know some strides have been made to correct certain false / embellished facts, but this event is more than documented in every way, & ridiculous to pursue. honestly, how revisionists can battle hard solid fact with all the provinence to back it up is a sheer waste of time. ww 2 happened as it happened, you can't mold things into your own way. iranian prez imadouchebag  is just the tip of the iceberg. general eisenhower at the death camps on film, etc. that can't be altered. history isn't always pretty but the truth is priceless. the major issues / gray areas of the war / a- bombings / myths have been more than hashed over. i hardly flick on the miltary channel anymore. it's all repetitive.
