Here's a pic for y'all: some supposed spotter models seen in a case at a museum gift shop I recently visited.
Image
I always thought spotter models were bigger, these guys were in the 1.5' to 3" wingspan range but all the necessary details were there so I guess they'd do the trick. What I thought was neat was that there was some obscure stuff on display. I'm seeing a Brewster Bermuda (I imagine it also had some American letter and number name but I don't know it), a Seawolf, a Martin B-10, an O-47 and I remember seeing something else weird in there but it doesn't seem to be in the picture. Anyways, not exactly front line stuff as far as I know and it makes you wonder why they would have bothered making the moulds in the first place.

They were probably distributed to stateside spotters. Those obsolete types were still in use as trainers and hacks. It would have been important for them to be recognized as friendlies, so 2Lt Dumbjohn wasn't on the receiving end of a flak barrage while trying to deliver a stack of reports and the General's quota of scotch.

Well that settles that. Moving on, I also shot a picture of a Fairey Albacore recognition model:

Then I shall oblige.

And now for something completely different. (But staying with the British theme).

Shuttleworth Collection.
Image

Shuttleworth. This is one of the airplanes from "Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines".

Shuttleworth again, and another plane from the movie.

Airplane-on-a-steek. RAF Lakenheath, 48 FW.

Lancaster. Not Texas or Pennsylvania-as in "The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight..." At Duxford.

I've got about 30 years worth of pictures, let me know when to stop.

I particularly love:

Early warbird airshow pics, and 1978 is early in my book since the movement doesn't go a lot further back than that. Bonus point for Texas birds.

Early warbird airshow pics, and I'd have to say WWI-era warbirds are about as early as it gets.

Warbird photos that aren't really warbirds, but interesting a/c all the same. Folks who haven't been properly introduced to a late model Air Tractor don't know what they're missing. Those things are crazy cool!

Yep, only about 20 years old at that point.
EDIT
As a "movement", yes around 1970 things were starting to "pop" in momentum Kurt, so true, not much earlier than that.

Been meaning to ask you, are you related to Ralp Maurer the early 20th century Galveston photograper?

Here's one of me with Dragon and it's Tail in 2000 I think. I sure do miss that scheme.
