Just got back from CA last night, and while the static displays at North Island were excellent I thought the flybys were a bit too dragged out. I was told that they wanted it to last 2 hours, but there were a lot of long gaps in between flybys. Too bad they didn't let the aircraft make several circuits instead of one quick flyby.

We got around the traffic situation a bit, passing an already long backup at the Coronado Bridge exit on I-5 south and driving down to the bottom of the bay, then back up the other side. Passed the bridge exit at 8:15 AM and parked on North Island at 9:15. Had to meet somebody for lunch so left about 11:00 and watched the first part of the flybys from across the bay to the north. After the piston stuff was done we drove up to Point Loma (long lines of cars already leaving) and watched the last few, and the big formation at the end. Couldn't have picked a better day for weather anyway.

On the way back stumbled onto the site of Dutch Flats, where the Spirit of St. Louis was flight tested, now the site of a Post Office, just north of Lindbergh Field, and the next day had a visit to the Aerospace Museum. All in all a good trip.
