I shot this one from across the ramp as we were leaving Casa Grande last weekend. This thing restored to military configuration and operating in dark blue Navy paint would be spectacular.

This airplane is at North Island for the celebration.

Much like Ol 927, I don't think anyone would mind too much if that Privateer had the wrong engines, if it were refinished in a WWII livery.

I read somewhere (British aviation magazine probably) that the current owner wants to keep Tanker 121 in its tanker colours as a tribute to the airtanker crews who gave their lives protecting other people's property. Even though I was lucky enough to photograph Tanker 121 taking off and landing at Greybull, WY (and do not have an active PB4Y in military colours), I have no problems with the current owner's intentions!

Ah now thats the question with these few ex H&P Privateers. Authenticity vs. Power. Do you do all the necessary work to make her a completely stock WW II PB4Y, or do you keep the R2600's for the added speed?

I like the tanker tribute idea...but I think the "retro" colors for this airplane look much better than the new wave stripes...hehe

I heard back from the Museum. They didn't say yes, but they didn't say no either. 8)

That is great, I am thinking positive. I will pass the news along to Hal Olsen. Hope the NNAM can work it out.

Almost looks like an Assembly Ship or what ever they were refereed as.

I so can't wait to see a PB4Y fly.

I remember a magazine article or something I read back in the 80s that mentioned the polka dots. They were apparently applied late one night after the imbibing of some liquid refreshment. I guess there's not much else to do in rural Wyoming on a Saturday night.

Tanker 121 used to be stationed at Jeffco back in the early 80s when I lived nearby. I remember when she showed up in her new scheme for the 1985 or 86 fire season. I thought it looked about ten years out of style even then..reminded me a bit of the contemporary United Air Lines livery. But hey, I'm just glad she's still with us and still flying!

AHHH back when she was known as the "Wonder Bread" plane. I think someone should put her back into the USCG markings.
