This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Our two resident Vikings at Creve Coeur Airport are planning a raid on Spirit of St. Louis Airport tomorrow. They don't have the latest head gear but they do have "some kind of helmet". I never knew the Vikings had L-16s. I thought they only had long boats.

I'll tell you what's a "wannabe" in that picture, and it's that airplane! Why would a perfectly good HU-16 dress up as a civilian?

Wannabe Albatross! :D

I'm happy peace has been restored without calling in UN peacekeepers.

I agree with everyone here...on both sides of the issue.

BUT...wasn't there an issue at Oshkosh many years ago about the Kalamazoo (IIRC) Ford Tri-Motor?
EAA wouldn't give it a Warbird award...despite its USAAC paint...because it has never served with the military?

Can someone refresh our memory?

Is there anything different from the military version over the civilian version?

August, I'm with you regarding the G-58. It's a crying shame that a unique one of a kind aircraft is masquerading as just another F8F ! :D

Roger Wolf Kahn would be heartbroken, I'm sure ! It needs to be back in the colors she wore for so long.

You mean other than the hardpoints and the dive brakes?

Spanner, I think the Navy version also had a hook! That would have reduced the landing roll to about 2 ft ! :D
