fritz, stick to private art commissions & tell the corporate ying yangs where they can stick there copyrights & threats. there is not a single thing they can do to you in the private sector. your talent is much to good to walk away from.

All I can add to this thread is that I read CY's book. It got me interested in aviation.

I have heard that he is a jerk though. I never really want to meet the man because of that.

Its funny how we elevate people to such hero status and then get dissapopinted when they won't be our new best friend!

I have met some of my childhood heroes and not all of them are that cool in person as in print or photos.

The main topic of this thread is the right to create an image of an actual event involving real people. In my experience most of it is fair game as long as you are not modifying what happened. In other words, Yeager lost a plane and he was not riding a dragon while hoisting the Spear of Destiny, right? If you draw him up riding said Dragon while hoisting the spear, then yeah, you might get called on it, otherwise I would respectfully tell Mrs. Yeager to go take a shot Jager and chill!

But, that would be funny as a picture! Yeager the F-104 Slayer!

If I were you I would tell Mr & Mrs Yeager that you think they should @#$%^&* and then when their lawyers call you, you can explain to them that they need to @#$%^&* and @#$%^&* and if they don't understand that, you can tell them they should *&^%$#, but try to be nice about it. Or if not just simply explain to them to @#$%^&*

BTW, I'm sure there were many pilots who broke the sound barrier way before Yeager, problem is they never survived to tell about it. ....
