Hello Matt,

Since you are at Greybull right now: do you happen to know who bought which aircraft? If so, are you at liberty to tell us?
A lot is still very "vague" now...

Very relieved to read that at the moment no aircraft or aircraft hulks are being scrapped!
Am afraid though that this will not last long...
Can you tell us what IS being axed/hacked to pieces at the moment?

Well, a lot of questions, I hope you got the time to answer...

An overview for those interested:
In the auction were seven KC-97s (how many sold and to whom?), one Fairchild F-27F Friendship, six C-119 airframes (the flyer found a buyer, but how about the others?), 1 flyable C-82 (now for Hagerstown) plus two hulks, six Hercules, fifteen Neptunes (two sold for scrap) plus a Lockheed Lodestar which found a new owner Wednesday a week ago.

I have lost track now. Besides the one going to Yanks, where did theo ther Privateers go?

so far no planes have been axed, lots of engines leaving on trucks. I know 3 of the KC-97 went to Clay Lacy. 1 Privateer went to Yanks, Powers still owns 1, 1 went to private owner as his first warbird. There is 1 more parked in the weeds on the north side of the field I do there are several C-119s that will get scrapped as well as C-130s, P2Vs, I am going to try and get over there and get pics tomorrow. I spent the day waking up the A-26,got both engines running, verified I had good mags, and the props would feather. Going to run it a bit harder tomorrrow and see what we have.
I do have pics if someone would want to post them for me.

Yesterday I spoke with the curator for the The Museum of Flight and Aerial Firefighting in Greybull and he told me that he was able to keep for the museum;

At least 1 of the PB4Y's, possibly 2
C-97
C-130
P2V-7 (currently on display at the airport entrance)
(2) C-119 (the two that were on display at the airport entrance)
C-45 (also currently on display at the airport entrance)

He also said that all of the buyers have until the 8th of September to remove their purchases or make special arrangements with the airport, which I assume means lease storage space back. The airport should look a lot different after the 8th.

Hey Matt, you guys gonna fly the A-26 down to Glendale? If so, when do you think you'll be here? I'd like to come over and check it out.

Thanks for posting the photos of the PB4Y-2's. I have the following owners to match the numbered aircraft in the photos. 121 was purchased by a business man from Phoenix, AZ and will be made to fly again. 124 was purchased by the Yanks Air Museum in Chino, CA. 126 is owned by the Hawkins family and will probably be sold in the future. 127 is owned by Gene Powers and has not been sold at this time.
The earlier post about the (4) KC-97's being scrapped by the end of last week was totally false. These are very large aircraft with a very small scrapping operation.
Also, here are the following N-numbers for the KC-97's that Clay Lacy purchased: N1365N, tanker configuration, N972HP, cargo configuration and 229862 for parts.

The A-26 will be going to Glendale, but not right away. We need to replace the nose wheel tire, and some hoses, and do a gear swing and other little chores. We will be making another trip up here in the future, just not sure when. We still have a C-45 in ILL to get home before winter.
I would be interested in the name of the guy that bought the 4Y if he is in Phx, I need more work.

We are still working on getting the C-119 that was in the movie as the bider has backed out.

if that is the A-26 that is in the CAF hangar in Mesa, it is still there. Last I saw it, it was parked next to our B-25.

This is a GREAT website. I appreciate all the information regarding the Hawkins & Powers Auction.

Hope that we hear good things regarding Clay Lacy's acquisition of three of the C-97s.

And Michael - good luck with the C-119 - That would be a great flying acquistion to join the Yankee Air Museum's C-47, B-17 and B-25! And thanks for a Terrific Thunder Over Michigan this year - I look forward to 2007.
