Problem is most of us on WIX (self included) have little knowledge or understanding of modern Japanese society or history. Maybe listening to those with some insight is an idea?
As we generally don't agree with most of the news reports about what we
do know about, why agree with those scaremongering about Japanese history? I tracked back on one of the 'revisionist history textbook' stories and the reality was a lot less headline friendly, and the book in question was
not authorised in schools. (Looked
very like one of the Darwin/Creationist teaching battles...)
Issues over the Rape of Nanking rattle on, understandably (but inexcusably), but denials of the dark pages aren't unique - there's the same issues over the attempted genocide of Aboriginals in Tasmania here; aspects of the British in India or South Africa, and as has been touched on, issues with Native Americans and the First Nations in N America. (US support of Franco's pretty tough to square with a democracy, albeit understandable geopolitically, as is the British forcing the Chinese to buy Opium -
everyone's house is glass.) Yes, degree and distance do matter, but simplistic denials and self-praise are very unhelpful and have nothing to do with understanding history.
As to 'hoarding' this is quite interesting!
