This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

But Mike, there weren't
any DC-3s at those W.W.II drops, they were all C-47 family.

And so will many of those at Oshkosh!
Haven't you got anything better to do than pick nits, James?

No books to write? I'm still awaiting the Lockheed 10/12 one!!!!!!

And what are
you doing?
FWIW, it's a great thing for the EAA to do; it'd be nice to acknowledge more about that 1985 gathering (IIRC it was a European one) and the whole 'last' banner is a bit of a glurge* IMHO. I don't see any reason that there can't be 40+ DC-3 type gatherings in the future, and there will be people with tales to tell operating them. I met a 21 year old DC-3 pilot on Sunday. The future's in good hands, and he won't be 'the last' either.
Now, suitably chastised, I'm off to work on a magazine. Are you up to date Mike?
Regards,

Anyone have details on the "Top Secret" DC-3/C-47?

That was going through my head today as well. What could it be? One idea that crossed my mind was that it could possibly be the Museum Of Flight's DC-2 and maybe flown by Clay Lacy. It's a flyable aircraft and it's been absent from it's display area behind the museum for a while now. This is just a guess. I don't have any inside info or anything.

I wonder if maybe the Air Force SOC will bring in one of the turbo prop ones they are still using with the commando stripes painted on it.

That's because it's been back at Van Nuys for a while now.

OUTSTANDING! Thanks for the update, Zack.
It's not a DC-3

, but we'll take it - even if it means a slight reduction in the planned "96,000 HP" arriving Monday afternoon.
Can't wait to see a DC-2 in the air.
And maybe next year or the year after Clay can bring his under restoration "faux B-377" (C-97G)......

Finally, the AirVenture website home page has an airplane back in the featured photo spot:
http://www.airventure.org/I believe this event is about airplanes the last time I checked (not a music festival?)

Just to clarify, in all actuality this event is about EAA members more than anything else. It is a member convention first and foremost, and in polls of the membership, most members say they like the Monday evening concerts we've held over the past few years. That being said, I agree with you, and love the pic of the DC-2 taking over the featured space on the AirVenture webpage.

Zack - you may be right regarding this being primarily a convention for EAA members, but I am going to see the DC-3s, warbirds and other aircraft that may be of interest to me. Everything else is a distraction for me. I realize others may have many reasons for attending the event. To me it's a BIG air show.

To me, it's about any and all things aviation. I'm there for the airplanes and the people like me who share my passion. There's something for everyone at AirVenture.
