Well I'm not a pilot, but if I could have a P-51 parked in my yard, it would have to be the Red Baron RB-51, in all it's Michelob glory.

Vlado, great job this weekend in Peoria, too bad the weather was so bad.

By the way, where's Moonbeam?

Moonbeam is in rebuild. Should be done in June.
Yes, Peoria was a 'challenge'!
Thx,

If I could own a P-51, I'd trade it for a Spitfire. I think I'd be less likely to kill myself in it, and I wouldn't have to polish all that aluminum.

Fritz, that is a good answer, one I thought of, but here's a better one. Keep the Mustang, move with it to Aspen, and we'll trade flights, so we can enjoy the best of both worlds. And those guys in Crazy Horse can teach you how to fly the 51 with safety, at least for a warbird. In my opinion, it is about 40% skill and 60% smarts.

I always thought it would be extremely cool to have a brand new B model built up as "Beguine" and then a modern racing incarnation of her.

If we're talking stock...then for B Gentile or Hofer, and for D an Iwo based example named "My Girl".

Id get a B made and do it like Don Gentile's P-51B Shangri La, just like Pete Regina did it. What a disgusting act the owner after that did to paint it red. Yes his money, his airplane, but disgusting nonetheless.

As we were flying down from Colorado, Ed and I had time to talk about P-51s, and how we were sort of an escort mode, just flying straight and level, low economy cruise power. I said what it would be like to be crossing into Germany, eyes peeled for 109's coming down. I said don't know how they could sit there for 6 hours or more on Pacific escort. Ed told of a vet telling how they pulled the prop rpm back until the gen just barely came on line. He mentioned how there weren't enough Mustangs painted in Pacific schemes.

I know it's wrong but I love the blue. I doubt I could actually bring myself to paint my own that way knowing it's wrong, but I love it just the same.

Does anyone know if Man O War was the only 4th FG bird to wear this camo pattern? Does anyone know the story on this camo pattern?

Image

Most likey it would be some Checkertail Clan scheme...

Or one from the 23rd FG...

Someone mentioned factory fresh?
