I think this Board needs a thunderdome for polital discussion. Thunderdome's simple. You can't won't break the rules, because there aren't any.

I've thought of that, I can create a usergroup with there own section, unseen by anybody not in the group. you'd have to opt in with the understanding that thier are no rules. If 10 people PM wanting this then I will create it.

Whatever the outcome of this with me is fione. I have no personal beef with Bill, as I said before. Even though we don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, when we meet up in person, we have a very nice time. I do think however it is foolish to assume that Bill did not mean what he wrote. We all know Bill has strong views. Love 'em or hate'em. I think it is foolish to say, Ah shucks he was just kiddin'. I don't feel he was. I don't feel the need to bash him, his beliefs, or his views. That's not who I am. That's not what I do. Whatever the outcome, I can't wait for this to be done.

I really hate to add to this thread again, as this thread detracts from what WIX is all about.... but.....

I found and read the thread in question and feel that the argument is being blown out of proportion by people mouthing off when they should just leave the "argument" alone and let the two involved, deal with it.

From my understanding, the it is pretty much resolved between the two parties. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I never post to threads like these and wasnt going to this time either. I have always enjoyed Bill and Eric poking fun at each other but shake my head that this time the useless political infighting deteriorated into all this silliness.
Maybe the best thing to do at the risk of inhibiting "free speech" is just delete the offensive post early on and not let go this far. It is time to get back to WARBIRDS, it is the reason that we are all here and have something in common.

I found WIX because Bill had talked about it with high regard at one of the airshows.
Bill is... and most likely will continue to be a great resource to this web site.

Another forum I go on has a section titled "Misc./Political Debate/Humour" perhaps that'd be the best thing? It's really sad that we can't all just get along and talk warbirds. I know any time I meet someone who is interested or involved in warbirds, or in aviation for that matter, I can always find something in common with them to chat about and will generally get along. Perhaps it's the relative anonymity (if thats a word) that causes people to fight online, or maybe everyone needs a vacation from each other, even the best relationships need a break! How about a 7 day ban for everyone! (That was a joke, I couldn't live without my daily dose of WIX).

I for one appreciate Bill's posts, and any time I read anybody's post, if I'm not interested or don't agree, I stop reading.

Hi Scott! Everyone!

I don't think this a "Political" place. Having a thunderdome is a bad idea in my opinion. It will always bleed over into WIX. And there will always be bad feelings because of it.

I think the moderation has been very favorable to free speech. However, I do not think this is a "Free Speech" site. It is a "Warbirds" site. If the "Speech" ain't about Warbirds, it becomes questionable to me immediately.

I have nothing, and know even less, but one thing I know is, if the political posts, and the deliberately provacative posts, are not ruthlessly deleted, then the only thing left of WIX in 6 months will be five guys with a permanent hate on for each other, posting garbage to deliberately provoke one another. I've seen it happen on every kind of board imaginable, pottery, porcelain, art, hanga, music, airplanes, and especially, Free Speech boards.

I like Bill. I think his experience and insight into warbird operations and the Spitfire, are invaluble, and not easiliy replaceable, if not at all.

But, he has a problem separating a "Hobby" from his "Life/Political Beliefs". Even after the no politics decree, he has found a way to take it right up to the line. The Raptor, Eagle, and War Crimes threads are good examples.

I have no problem with a vigorous, spirited discussion about an event, technolgy, ideals, of something in the past, make that the far past, to try and discover a new fact, or truth, but constantly interjecting a modern political belief into almost every discussion is getting old, and it is getting very disruptive.

There comes a point in most peoples lives when they realize that a lot people just do not agree with them, and nothing they can say or do is going to change that. At that time, they should also be super duper glad they live in America, and we can all walk away from a disagreement. In a lot of places, those kind of disagreements are handled permanently.

Talking Religion or Politics in polite company is like describing the consistancy, corn and peanut count, and aroma of your last dump to your grandma and her church friends after 5 bong hits and a bottle of Jack. Bad form, every day of the week.

I voted Bill off of the island for 7 days. Thats enough time to sort it out and for everyone to cool down.

Bill, I hope you came back dude, you are, an invaluble resource, and person.
