Is this one of yours? Looks like it, if so you can tell flightaware to delete it.
That site is one of the worst offenders - members upload any photo they want and then get credit as a "pick of the week" :x

mike furline wrote:I haven't had time to read the entire thread and I can understand how Mark is a bit upset about spending a lot of time & effort posting pics and then someone else uses them to sell on ebay, but most of the pictures Mark has posted (which I enjoy) are "public domain".
As an example, the majority of the Naval Aviation pictures (no matter where he sourced them from) originate from and are kept at NARA (College Park, MD) in the RG-80 collection. They are free to anyone who wants to go there, look through the boxes of pictures and scan them. I have hundreds/thousands of these scans myself. I've spent days/weeks/months going to NARA making these scans, and if I chose too I could sell them, post them, etc..

Again, I get how you feel slighted and I certainly don't mean any disrespect, but at least you got to do this from the comfort of your own home. Your sourcing pictures from the internet (excluding your own private photographs), posting them, and are upset when someone else sources them from WIX.

Again, No, no, no!!!!! not upset at all, just a bit annoyed and taken back and was hoping NOT to come across as 'upset' or 'wronged'. If I did it was not the intention and if you go back and read my posts, it should be fairly clear how I feel. I know where I get most of my photos from and I'm well aware most are "public domain" photos that ALL can access ... that's not the point I was trying to make here, it's simply that I was reconsidering (and still somewhat am) whether I want to continue to post photos that I take the effort to clean up, crop, re-size etc. in photoshop and other software, post them on WIX and then within hours see the exact photos with my work done to them show up on Ebay. No more, no less.

I know what I'm doing and I know there are others who have no problem taking advantage of situations, no matter what the reasons. That's life for ya. I do this for free for those of you who want to have them for free. I have no interest in people who want to try to make money off of my work with these photos. Do your own work and sell your own results with your own photos no matter where you get them from as I could care less. I can certainly understand if someone wants to take my work and sell it, but I'm not sure I want to offer my work for anyone to grab and sell any longer.

That's the point I was making. Period!

This is the ONLY reason I brought this whole deal to the forefront here on WIX. If you no longer see photo threads from me you'll now know why. Nothing to do with WIX and nothing personal. It's just a choice I may choose to make.

BTW this is one of the reasons Jack Cook no longer posts much here.

but most of the pictures Mark has posted (which I enjoy) are "public domain". ... but at least you got to do this from the comfort of your own home.

And many of them are of my own, taken by my dad or PAID for by me and not just scavenged off the internet. So if I choose there could be something I could be upset about when someone is trying to sell them on Ebay. But I also understand it's the risk I take to post them on the internet and your not the only one who has put in the time to collect photos beyond the internet or comfort of your home pal.

I'm also quite familiar with the RG-80 collection. Been there and have referred others there. Sorry your not the only one who knows about that collection.

Your sourcing pictures from the internet (excluding your own private photographs), posting them, and are upset when someone else sources them from WIX.
(Negative!!! it might be best if you did go back and read the whole thing from the start  )

Ya'll need to reign it in a bit. I'm one of those greedy slobs who sell photos on ebay.
I'm also the same greedy slob who shared umpteen thousand photos on this webpage and many others.
Thanks one whole h*lluva a lot!!

Mark-
Love the photos. If you want to take the time to do it, please continue to do so! We are all the better for it. That said, if you don't want to quickly see them plastered other places, stop. The reality of the internet is that once posted, you've largely lost control. Sad but true. I enjoy your photos and appreciate the time you take to post them. But if it pains you then we will all be losers. Jack and I are largely of the same opinion. I have been burned several times, and have chosen to step back a bit. Nothing personal, just a preference. Thanks for what you share with the rest of us.

Mark,

Thanks for posting your pics. I know it takes a lot of time and effort. I have put some of "my" Greenland Duck Hunt pics on various websites to share the history. On a couple of occasions I have run across them on other websites. I knew that a particular image, though originated in the public domain (ie...NARA or LOC), was one I had researched/collected. I knew this because either my writing was on the pic somewhere or my thumb was holding the pic and they posted it that way. I thought it was kind of funny....but I wasn't upset. They weren't doing it for profit or anything....just lifting the pics to share somewhere else. One may have even shown up on here once. Anyway....I've done that before.

Thx guys, I'll probably continue to post for folks who ask for something via PM, and once in a while for a thread that I find interesting and have something to contribute, but much more conservative from now on. Take them for free and have fun is all I ask but if you're going to turn around and sell them on Ebay, I just as soon you get them from someone else. Other than that I have no problems at all.

Sorry Jack for my remark, I will remove it. Yes you have put may pic. on here and I have enjoyed them. Again I apologizes.

Ive posted several photos here and I have to say this is the best place Ive posted. One site I used to post at no one ever took the time to even say thanks, so I no longer post there. Anything I've posted everyone is always welcome to it, a little credit line is all I would like....... WIX folks R the best.

Mark,

Please don't stop posting! Instead, fight back. Add a watermark diagonally across any photo that you do work on, something like "AS SEEN ON WIX". If anyone here on WIX wants an unmarked copy of that image, they can PM you and request it. Non-removable watermarks will stop the poachers dead in their tracks.

I'm sorry to hear this Mark, about people stealing the photos you have found. I have posted some on FB, but I have given you credit, especially the ones of Air Group Two which I appreciate very very much you posting by the way.

Once again thx guys I really do appreciate all the kind words. I'm not going anywhere, at least not quite yet. Just thinking of a new game plan that'll hopefully have positive results for ALL of us who like this stuff, including the Ebay guys. As for the PM's I'm still 'filling those orders' as best I can (and happy to do it) so bare with me on those. I'm happy to know you enjoy them. :D

Re: I think I'll continue to post some old photos :) ...

What the h*ll, why not as it's just a hobby and life's short right? ... There's just too much good stuff to share with you dudes who like these old photos. I have some work to do to clean up, re-size etc. so bare with me. I won't post them until there where I like them and I'm picky about how they look, and no watermarks as they really belong to all of us. (At least the one's I will post from now on) So for those Ebay dudes help yourself, but think about maybe two things, one would be to maybe give credit to WIX if you found them here, two would be maybe to send a couple bucks to the WIX management every now and then. (I know wishful thinking but at least I asked) I've got some great stuff for ya's coming shortly ...

More B-25's (a lot more)
More D-Day C-47's and gliders (a lot more)
More P-40's, P-39's, P-38's, P-47's

... And I haven't seen any of then before so chances most of you haven't either pop2
Thx for the PM's

Just to start.
