Correct. The very last credit line at the end of "Top Gun" states:

This film is dedicated to the memory of Art Scholl

Art had a profound influence in my interest in Aviation. I saw him fly many times in my youth. In researching him on-line a few years ago, I found he was much more than just an airshow pilot. He also headed the Aeronautics Program at San Bernardino Valley College for 18 years...as a result, I got my A & P through their program last year. The staff has a number of key members of his team as instructors. I couldn't have found a better program, bar none.

I only saw "Top Gun" a couple of years ago. I liked the flying scenes, but thought the story line and acting wasn't all that great. Does everything have to have a "Love Story" in it? I think the idea of a military flying film would be great...but haven't seen any modern ones that really stand out to me....

When I get time, I plan to jump the link to see the original script...sounds interesting.

Better a sequel than a remake!

I will lay money down right now that the story involves Maverick Jr joining the Navy and flying jets trying to live up to the legend that is his father.

Or how about this. An AIR FORCE fighter pilot seeks out his father that he never knew. He searches his soul, trying to find out who his father was while splashing some Iranian F-14s, narrowly avoiding an international incident. Along the way, he discovers love and a dark secret. His father is actually alive. And he was a NAVY pilot. Cut to Mavrick... "Luke, I am your father." Nooooooo!

Hahaha!

Maybe this time the bad guys fly the Tomcats? And maybe a Phantom mixed in?

The flying scenes are awesome, and there's an endless array of corny and hilarious one liners. My personal favorite:

"Goose, whose ass did you have to kiss to get here anyway?"
"Well the list is long, but distinguished..."

and then Slider says "Yeah, so's my Johnson."

That's MY personal favorite!

The old saying.....

If it wasn't for the Coast Guard, Top Gun would have been only 30 minutes.

No, he's a sh*t-hot cargo plane pilot flying the only airlifter in the US inventory capable of getting Iceman into the air.

(sorry, bit of an oldie there from when the first rumors of Topgun II came out).

Of course, they could "rewind the clock" and have it so the movie takes place in the late 1990s or early 2000s to make the storyline plausible. IIRC, the original thought for Top Gun 2 was to have a female pilot in the "Maverick" role.

I was 18 when the original came out. Even though I was pretty well read and knew about the movie inaccuracies, it was a very enjoyable movie to watch. I can still get myself sucked in to watching it when it is on cable.

Whilte TG had it had its inaccurate moments, they were only a fraction of the inaccuracies that were in the movie "Midway". The first time I saw Midway as a kid (if you recall, it aired on NBC as a 2-day event...they added in the footage from the Coral Sea battle that did not make it into the theatre cut), I thought it was unwatchable from all the inaccuracies. P-40s for F2As? Please!

WIXers may want to pick-up a copy of Topgun Days: Dogfighting, Cheating Death, and Hollywood Glory as One of America's Best Fighter Jocks. The book is written by Dave "Bio" Baranek, who was a Topgun instructor and also participated in the aerial sequences used in the film "Top Gun."
I can’t believe I didn’t make that suggestion already. I read the book just a few weeks ago and agree it’s a must-read if you liked the original movie.

since maverick was a lieutenant in the 1985 movie you'd think maverick would be an admiral by now & flying a desk. the premise for a 2nd top gun makes me want to go back to bed!! zzzzzzzzzz snore!!!

If Tom Cruise is in it, I wonder what character in the new one will die. Seems like every movie Tom Cruise is in some one close to his character dies or is severly injured for life.
