A Short Skyvan... (No relation of mine as far as I know)

Used to help some folks do some insane stuff...

like flying around a group of...

peoples with wing suits on...

It's always good to meet fellow L-bird types!

even if they have Shark mouths on 'em... (and yes, I do have wartime photos of that, so it's not so bad as I made it out to be earlier)

I got back to my bird to be there before the crowd.

or what was left of a crowd that came to the warbird ramp.

Of course the Snowbirds kept most of the people's attention.

and some of mine, too...

The good thing about an L-bird is that it's slow and stable enough to manage while shooting pics (Of course, I've also worked professionally with an aerial photographer, so it's a bit of old hand for me)

BTW, that's one of the things they were used for a LOT during WWII. Mr. Todd has a wonderful story about taking pictures of a Japanese cave on Okinawa.

and that's goodby to WOH 2011 with my sister in the back.

we were slowly racing for home to get there before our grass field got too dark to land on.

and watched the sun set...

I got her down safely just before it would have been time to make an alternate field and we refueled her, and took the time to shoot a few more pictures.

and safely tucked her back in bed for the evening.

Oh, and she still needs some fresh paint... :wink:

Of some import to the thread- after surviving his flight I introduced Pedro to Shiner Bock. He is flying home at the moment and when he reads and publishes to this thread he will no doubt "get" the reference to Ryan's flyover of Shiner, Texas. :drink3:

I used to commute to work between South Texas and Houston in my 4 seat Grumman. Several years back, I got a call one Friday morning at work with an offer to "carpool" with a T-6 driver who was heading south to the Air Fiesta in Brownsville. I grabbed my bag and sped to the airport to make the departure time. I had already packed my camera for the weekend show, but planned to get film once I got to the house. South of Galveston we met up with Thunderbird and flew formation all the way to Brownsville. I had a great camera, but no film. My "friend" (best friend prior to this trip!) kept saying "Wow, that would make a great shot!" He said that many times during the almost 2 hour trip. I have great memories from the flight, but I can't share them with anyone since I didn't get any pics. Not sure when or if I'll get an opportunity like that again, but I'll never forget it. I always appreciate it when others share their photos/experiences with the rest of us. Thank you again.

I am just happy I remembered to turn the date stamp OFF with this set of photos! :roll:

We could probably start WIX's longest thread for TELL US THE PICTURE YOU MISSED because the camera broke, etc.

Mine is- flying back Kermit (Aeronca Champ) back to Tx. from Culpepper, Va. and stopping in Meridien, Miss.
I taxi up to the FBO and call the tower to make certain that THIS is where I am suppoed to park. They parked me next to a row of NAVY T-45s that had stopped for fueling from the NAS about 12 miles away.
My brother pulled up in his jeep and took pictures of it- BUT we found out later that night that it filled the memory card and it dorked ALL the photos. :cry:

Oh boo hoo!

And then there were the shots of my girfriend Morgan Fairchild that didn't come out because my hands were shaking and I didn't thread the 35 mm film correctly. She looked ALL black! :axe:

Spanner, the good news is that you can duplicate your Kermit / T-45 shot at Meridian on any weekday ! You just have to fly back to Meridian !

I don't know what you are going to do about Morgan though ! She is, extremely, well preserved ! :drink3:

In Texas all beers other than Shiner are imports. Best thing about Shiner you can go to Shiner (the town) and drink it for free every afternoon 12-5. Great idea.
