This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Does it have to be a declared war??? Strategic Air Command, and, Bombers B-52 are good airplane movies. Both shot during the Cold??? War. Many aircraft and crews were lost during that period, defending and protecting our country. Some were even shot down by the Russians, a little known fact. nuff said!

Not a "war" movie, but a military aviation movie. Also not my favorite. But I thought I'd share a little B movie I came across on Netflix. "Top of the World" . Nice C-47, B-36, and F-82 Twin Mustang footage in Alaska from this 1955 movie.
Was surprised to see the Twin Mustang footage. Not a lot, but since this is the only movie I've noticed ANY Twin Mustangs flying, I thought I'd bring it up in this old thread, which I will now use for search criteria with Netflix. Thanks for all the listings!

In no specific order. Films I saw (mostly in German) and liked:
Battle Of Britain
Where Eagles Dare (I visited the filmsite at the airfield in Aigen just after filming was over, burned fake Fw 190 (T-6) still there, nearly cried seeing them on the scrap truck, well, I was only 13 .....)
The Caine Mutiny
Das Boot
Schindlers List
Un taxi pour Tobrouk ([German: Taxi nach Tobruk] Don´t know if it was released in the US, though it says a English version should exist, maybe "Taxi For Tobruk"??).
The Blue Max
The Bridge
Inglorious Bastards
Cross Of Iron
Stalingrad (1993 film)
The Star of Africa (featuring HA 1109 Tripala [Hispano-Suiza 12Z-17powered])
Tora, Tora, Tora
Aces High
Dr. Strangelove
Apocalypse Now
Green Berets
The Dogs of War
The Wild Geese
The Eagle Has Landed
Valkyrie
Memphis Belle
All Quiet On The Western Front (the book is even miles better, really gets under your skin...)

Nobody mentioned Winged Victory, a really sappy story (by today's standards) of small town boys going through aviation cadet training. Not all that much flying but some great shots of brand new BT-13s and B-24s toward the end.

Death Race - Lloyd Bridges, Doug McClure, P-40s.
The Sand Pebbles - Steve McQueen, excellent boarding party scene.
H*ll is for Heroes - Steve McQueen, again. Brutal hand-to-hand fighting scene.
Murphy's War - Terrible movie, great Duck flying.
