From those photos, it's difficult to answer...

Some have the proper oval "zipper" castings that the tubes ran within, some have simple fabricated representations with or without the sleeves, I have an inkling that at least one has the oval castings and zippers fitted to the Cheyenne pumpkin too.

I would think that the barrel sleeve should be clamped to the barrel jacket in such a position that the two rollers on the oval zipper casting will run along its length throughout the travel of the barrels through the turret slots.
The photo of the sleeves protruding on "Thunderbird" would allow for the upward movement, i.e. when the sleeves are free to roll withing the oval castings they would likely be flush when the barrels were fully elevated.
