He did'nt fly Lady Jo by himself and there was no danger to the plane or him other than what is normal for an experienced pilot on the course.
What seems to be forgotten is the hype used by Spike (and any "reality" based show) to get people to watch. They pump a non-event into a near death experience to get viewers.
I'm just glad a little publicity is happening for the races. They need all they can get.

I'm not bashing on Jesse, as I've actually heard he is a normal person in real life. I'm bashing on the way the producers are portraying this as a death-defying stunt. It's just funny because we all know the real story, yet they use hype to sell the show. Actually, this is a good thing. I'm glad they are doing it, because hopefully it will draw more fans to warbirds, Air Racing and Reno - all good in my book. I would rather they do it than not, despite all of the errors in the on-line preview.

BTW, I've heard that the whole Jesse clan - i.e. - father and brothers are all HUGE race fans and go to Reno every year! :)

ALL good points, i guess the bottom line is. any publicity is better than no publicity.

I have friends who confirm that Jesse is a normal gearhead just like us (mean my circle of friends). I know several of the guys that work at his hot rod shop in Austin.

...without a pilots license!

Wow, I didn't know the "American Air Force" decommissioned the P-51 in the 1980's. Silly me, I thought they last flew in the 1950's. I was alive back then, how come nobody told me about the P-51's in the boneyard at Davis-Monthan in the 1980's."

Well, not to be a stickler, but, didn't the Dominicans operate Mustangs well into the early 80's? So technically, this would be correct.

That part is correct, if not mentioned by the writer. The Dominicans retired their remaining P-51s in 1984, and the entire inventory was bought and imported to the US.

Jesse is a very smart man.
If anybody watched his actions on the Celebrity Apprentice show last spring they would've seen a very shrewd and savvy business man.

My opinion of him was very similar to what everyone's been posting here, but it changed after I watched how he worked out the problems they were given in Trump's show.
Jerry

I think he's shown himself to be a smart man...but with issues. In the latter days of the Motorcycle Mania show before Monster Garage he let on that he was trying to slow down and live a normal life. I think he needs to let go of the anger/break stuff attitude. He also said he was done with TV after Monster Garage, but he's back for the cameras again apparently.

I've already considered that, but because it mentions the "American Air Force", it implies that they operated them into the 80's not the Dominican Republic. It doesn't make the distinction, so the average ignorant viewer will not know the difference.

You are correct.

I have met JJ a few times, both at the drags and some car shows, and can say that he was a decent human being around me.

Just don't try to B.S. the man and act straight up with him and he will do the same for you. I know a couple of people who worked with him on the Monster Garage stuff and they said that he was good to work with and got things done.

As for this crazy stunt. well, SPIKE T.V. is going to hype it wether it is real or not. JJ gets paid and so did the plane they use in the show. At least he is not sitting in front of a green screen with a CGI bird around him!

Seeing a bird fly anywhere is cool regardless of the crummy show!

I have a pair of Zaphod Beeblebrox's sunglasses, at the first sign of danger, they turn black so you can't see the danger that is coming and you can relax......................................

Bonus points if you know who Zaphod Beeblebrox is...........................

With President Zaphod you would need two pair of glasses so you can have them on both heads! Douglas Adams, Hitchhikers guide!! Just Don't Panic!
