Allrightythen...I guess I will play the Devil's Advocate here and say that I am with the minority and am not sad to see JDK leave his post as a moderator. I do agree with Scott in that there has to be some order here as in any public forum, but that person needs to remember that they are dealing with all sorts of people from different backgrounds. Maintaining a haughty-taughty, holier-than-thou attitude gets tiring after a while to those who are beneath you. The greatest leaders always lead by example and not by brow-beating their inferior subjects. I had that personal displeasure a couple of different times and James quickly lost my respect along with a couple of other former members.

Again and again I am reminded that this is such a wonderful site with all of the wit and wisdom to be shared. Just like a big dysfuntional family, we all come from the same seeds...Warbird junkies or what have you. No family is without a black sheep. Trying to find a way to keep all of the siblings together and on the same page must get frustrating for Scott our leader. Again though, as is the case with a family, we all are entitled to our opinions...it would be great to have a big WIX boxing match somplace like Oshkosh. Get in the ring with your favorite nemesis and have at it. I have found that to be very cathartic with members of my family. And while ya'll take your frustrations out on each other...get it out of your system...show me where the beer and girls are!

Gee I wonder what psycho wrote that? He is the only one on any site that I've ever seen ask for a self ban, then complain when he can still post.

Unreal what you had to put up with James. At least now you don't have to deal with head cases like that anymore.

Sad to see you go James. I to believe you have taken more than your fair share of crap. Some people here need managers.......because they handle themselves far too much!
Anyway, I hope I get to cross paths with you the next time I'm lurking in MEL. Thanks for your contributions to this site.

The mightyauster.

Would JDK agree to a poll on this matter? I think he would find that a very considerable majority would agree with a statement that "his comments were almost always useful and constructive."

I have seen some contentious dialogues ("P-38 on a stick" comes recently to mind) but have always considered them as something to expect of a diverse and democratic society. If anyone has sent overly personal and insulting messages to JDK, then he should have Scott bar them, otherwise just let it run off your back. WIXers are interested in powerful warplanes and often have money and ego to match. That their opinions are sometimes hasty and in-your-face should to some degree be expected and should not be taken personally.

Please please please, run a poll - or have Scott conduct the honors. I am sure that there are some that do not like you or your work (or anyone's work for that matter), but the vast preponderance will be supportive.

I do not send many messages, and what messages I do send tend to be reflective and academic. On a couple of occasions, JDK has sent supportive and encouraging follow-ups to my messages, or something that constructively clarifies what I have said. This has been much appreciated and serves at least to me as evidence that he has been a very good moderator.

So, Scott, please give us a poll and allow us to give James some statistical feedback. Thanks.

hi all,

i don't often post here mainly because i don't have much to say.
i personally agree with Jame's decision, having recieved personal attacks myself from forum members, one of whom as posted on this thread, i know what it feel like, unfortunately for me i can't stand down, i own the site :( AWF that is.
put up with it, never, the site owner and the moderators should NOT have to recieve such utterings, if people want to have a flame war with other member, then take it off site, other wise you will end up losing one of the best sites on the web.

James,

good choice mate, carry one doing what you do best, being yourself.
and keep up the good work elsewhere, you know my addi, contact me if you need anything.

I'm puzzled... :?

No, seriously !!! I just can't figure out what's going on in some people's head on this forum...

I participate in many other forums and this one is the only one where I see this kind of thing happen. Really !

I don't get it at all... It's a real shame because a lot of good people here are graciously sharing their knowledge and honestly, I feel like I know a little more everytime I log off. Wasting this unvaluable ressource by acting like school kids just make them run away, one by one...

Really too bad... :(

Yeah, Mark (Hellcat) sent me a very sincere message, apologizing for any personal jabs he made to JDK. He said he doesn't hate him, they just don't see eye to eye on some things. As with many of us, Hellcat has some stress in his life and unfortunately took it out on certain WIXers from time to time.

So, I just wanted James to know that. It may not excuse what's been said in the past, but it was certainly a sincere apology from Mark.

So James, how about posting a thread with one of your quizzes next? We're up to quiz number 3,468 now, right? ;-)

Gary

True, almost always useful and constructive..tho sometimes uneven in execution of discipline. Using one post each from Jlittle and Hellcat, as those that pushed him over the edge is a bit disingenuous.

Hellcat has had a lot of slack...more than I thought possible without temporary suspension or banning.
If an individual doesn't feel they can maintain a civil attitude and ask to be banned, then so be it..adios.
Did JDK notify Scott of this? As for Jlittle, dunno..first time I've noticed him "go off the reservation", but I
may have missed something or what may have been PM'ed.

Retroaviation was correct in the "Greenwood Spitfire" thread, on page 1 in his observation that the subject matter
is a clincher for a lockdown. No Brainer there..The Greenwoodites don't seem to get it. SCOTT banned Bill and at
least one other, Brokenwrench, at that time after temporary suspensions(IIRC) and many, many, patient urgings.

The Greenwood Spitfire thread should've been dumped of the "save Bill" comments with an instruction of
"aircraft only" content towards project progress or history of the A/C etc.

Really a tempest in a teapot James....your supposed to stay ahead of the machine. Sorry to see you quit.
You were a good mod most of the time!

Firstly, as primarily a lurker I realize my opinion is understandably less valuable than the active members.
That said, first and foremost, I think it is inexcuseable for any civilized person to post those words and in that "tone of voice" on this tyoe of forum. Whoever it is ought to post an appropriate apology before disappearing.
Whoever is responsible for that post is, I hope and presume, history on this forum.
James, I've tried moderating elsewhere and found it extremely difficult, time consuming, and thankless. While I am used to a bit less moderating on other forums, and have ocassionally wished for a bit less here, I have always felt you did a fair and evenhanded job, with well written and constructive warnings. I hope, as Jack observed, that you will indeed remain here as your contributions, moderator or otherwise, are greatly appreciated even if that appreciation is/was not expressed in a timely manner.

I am sad to have this happen and appalled that James was forced to do it. The majority of the members of this site are adults and have some ability to interact in a civil manner. However, those few that cause the majority of the problems are warned. I'm done, I will be spending the next few weeks going through complaints and reviewing posts. Consider this your only warning. I have been more than generous and patient. Thats over. You want to be anti-social, you'll have to do it elsewhere. If I catch you doing it here you will be banned without warning or prejudice. I hate to have to be a tyrant but thats the way of things for now.
