I would kindly suggest that the Vietnam Memorial would be miles long if it weren't for the "peacenik claptrap" that was instrumental in ending the war.

I would kindly suggest that it would not be as long as it is if it hadn't been for the arrogant, moronic Johnson administration sticking their finger into it in the first place! Had they gone in and let the military do their thing, allowed us to bomb Hanoi into the dark ages, not restricted our fighting to every alternate Sunday after 3PM, except in October, and every other stinking, absurd rule they came up with to waste our troops lives, then we probably would have done sufficient damage early enough to have forced them to the negotiating table with serious intent far earlier than his carrot and stick method. He gave them the carrot. Guess who received the stick and where....

Jack is your wife fully Japanese, ie born there? How about her family? Or they American born of Japanese descent? Maybe you could tell us on WIX how she and her family feel about these WWII matters if you have discussed it.

I think not using it is just a matter of respect and it is different than being called a Brit, Canuck or Yank. Many Japanese see it more along the line of being called a chink, gook, nazi, and dare I say it, nig**r. But I will say that I’m in favour of freedom of speech and for those who want to use the term Japanese or any other derogatory name to describe what they see as a minority group, knock yourself out, that’s what our grandfathers/fathers fought and died for. Myself, I tend to teach my kids respect for humanity as a whole. And yes, I tell them about their Japanese heritage in WWII because I believe it’s something they need to know about. I tell them that's that was a different time but history can repeat itself that why we need to remember.
The war is over for most of us, let’s not forget, but let’s move on.

Sorta like B-25s straffing 100s of survivors from sunken transports during the "Battle of the Bismark Sea", B-29s firebombing Japanese cites or the total destruction of Dresden? How many civilians were killed in WWII by allied bombing attacks???

My dad was "suited up" for that Mission, but didn't make it due to weather, but one of the things he stated was his disappointment in not participating!!! Seems you were taught from the same textbooks the Japanese have been using since 1945..
War is s--t!! Anyone who says different must be playing a video game. Those were troops in the water, not civilians!!! And as to the civilians lost, why don't you got to Russia and visit the National cemetary at what was Stalingrad... It's a real eye opener!!! The Germans , Italians and Japanese were very diligent in targeting the civilians to get the most effect...

As to the B-29 Atomic Bombs, I have yet to find a single vet of that War who says anything but I glad they used them!!! Bet you think different!!!
It's yoyo's like you that are trying to rewrite the history and constantly condem the guys who gave all for the USA..

As an aside, I was recently taking to Eddie Kurzdel, a warbird friend. He had just visited the ground zero bomb site in Hiroshima. It was a pretty moving experience. One of the specific things I asked him was about the reaction of the residents there to an American visitor. He said there was no animosity, a lady at the site was even friendly.
I was also talking to a Japanese film crew. We had lots of spare time due to bad weather and I tried to find out their views of the war and the Bomb, etc. There was some language problem, but I got the feeling they weren't anxious to discuss these things much. They pretty much said that was a long time ago, and different. They were very polite when you meet them, it is a strange experience to be introduced to someone and actually have them bow!

What I said was
it was the correct thing to do. Has was dropping the A-bombs. My only point that killing of non-combants and senseless brutality occurred on both sides.

It is unnecessary to use racial slurs when talking about History, except if the discussion is about racial slurs, then its necessary for the discussion. To use them in general conversation, even about historical events in not needed and disrespectful and ignorant. If have placed word filters on several racial slurs and they will automatically be replaced. (Hence some of the conversation at the beginning of this thread might not make sense). I will include more as I feel necessary. Any attempt to circumnavigate this will be cause for suspension.
