This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

It must all be true because Uncle Joes buddy saw them do it.I've heard several stories over the years but have never seen one photo to back up any of the claims. It's more wishful thinking and poeple that are lonely and want some attention that dream up these stories, why I don't know.Yes there is the Swamp Ghost, P-61 recovery,Kbird,P-47s, even modern jets buried in the desert sands ect. that are for real but I've yet to see anything buried new in the crate yet.If your willing to believe it there will be no shortage of tall tails to feed your imagination just wait for the photos before you mail the checks  Happy hunting please post your photos if they are ever found

Thanks Mike

Years ago, I saw a photo published of P-38s being bulldozed into a ravine (complete with engines and some looking very new) and it was captioned as being at Clark Field. The question is, were they buried in the ravine or left for the local scrappers? If they are still there, I would argue that it's worth looking for them to at least find out if they are usable or junk.

Just now, I found these photos showing the destruction of P-51s and P-38s at Clark Field. They were burned using phosphorus bombs. Perhaps the photo I saw is part of the same sequence.

Edit: I need to credit the photos to this web page:

Anything that remained was probably buried. Perhaps a few airframes survived the fire to be buried, so it could be worth an exploratory dig. That's Mt. Arayat in the background to use as a visual reference.

A photo from today. Could anything be buried under those trees?

Seems pretty unlikely... but then again, who would have thought a P-38 would just appear on a beach in England?

These stories keep people motivated to keep looking and that is a good thing, IMO, where it pans out to be true or not.

In the mid 80's I had a conversation with a former base commander of Clark AFB and he said they had in the past dug up parts in this area of the base when doing service improvements, like water/sewer etc. He said the parts that he saw were very corroded.

I have missed some great warbird/parts finds because I thought the story I got was implausible. I tend to listen with a lot less skepticism now.

I have stood on sites here in the US that you can see the parts sticking out of the ground, but for various reasons could not get permission to dig. I doubt any airplane in the pacific is pristine, but I don't exclude them being out there. If the Corsair sells I hope to prove it.
