Pro & Con on WIX

Wed Apr 23, 2008 2:33 pm

I have found in some cases directly useful info for flying or working on Warbirds, such as someone found the listing, including weight of the battery I used, even though it was a discontinued model.
I have found Lot's of stories of war service or other flying info that is useful; and a tremendous amount that is of general and historic interest.
I have found some humorous and interesting people on Wix, Jack, Gary, Doug, Mudge, Steve, Paul, Rick and on and on. There are a number of people who I may disagree with on issues, but when I have met them in person they are nice folks., mostly.

On the Con side, mostly it is that one can use/spend/waste an awful lot of time on line. It is unlike me, because before WIX I was almost never on a computer, I don't even own a cell phone, and am not a techno gadget guy. If I did not have that problem with the tailwheel shock I probably would not even know what WIX was.

I fear I never would have gotten to know them otherwise. What a fun place to interact with others that share the same infectious warbird bug!

How is school/flying treating you? I assume that's why we have not heard much from you!

Hey Steve!

I wish that were the case, truly. My house sat on the market for just over 6 months and only had three people look at it. Total bummer. So since school and flying was dependant on the money from selling the house I was unable to go. My admission was deferred for a year so we shall see what happens. Still going to school out here though for now and getting married in the fall. So things are great, just not what I had originally expected.

Waiting for airshow season to get underway here, I need a warbird fix!

Starting a new job in a couple weeks - no more WIX at work for me. :(

Congratulations on the new Job and Marriage! Just be careful Marriage has done in more than one flying career!

Is the new job aviation related?

Yes, WIX has helped me out with info when I couldn't find it through my regular resources. I've also met a lot of great people, and it's given me some great folks to hang with at Thunder Over Michigan, where I maybe only previously knew one or two people. Makes my trips to MI a much more pleasurable trip.

Thank you Scott, who I also met there a couple of years ago.

Hmmm.....Warbird work? From reading what everyone here writes about working on warbirds in any capacity, it is more a labor of love than anything else :) In my very limited "work" on them, I find myself totally engrossed with the thoughts of what must it have been like to fly and work on these lovely ladies when they were just normal inventory. Same feeling looking at and admiring them at airshows and museums.

Having met quite a few fellow WIXers before I was even aware of this wonderful place, I am in total agreement that it is a fine community to belong to :P Now that I am here, my unquenchable desire to learn is in line with knowing that there are others like me...sort of

Now, all I gotta do is learn to stop taking some of the other topics here personally and just enjoy the ride!

Thanks a million Scott for this fantastic site...hope to meet you soon and get a chance to shake the hand of Oz :P
