This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

This is my first love, my ambition was to fly in a Mustang, through the generosity of a good friend I have achieved more than I thought I ever could

And for the record, shorts with dark socks were fashionable at that time.

I my love for warbirds started when I was growing up with a P-47 making low "straffing runs at my fathers grass strip. By straffing run I mean diving from 4000 ft to about 50 ft (if that high) and around 350 mph.

Not surprising young Austin Powers fancied the Spit.

I think it started for me with reading WWI &II history books in the library after elementary school. Then the Black Sheep sealed the deal! I finally got to go to my first airshow in 85 at Myrtle AFB (closed now) during a graduation trip (I saw Top Gun in the theater too). Now I get to play with the 1:1 scale models at our museum (hard to believe it's been 15 years since we got our first plane! ) .
I just hope we will get one of my favorites one day, the Corsair or a B-25 !

K5083, is that really you in front of RAF? If so give us the details about when and where? I really don't like that ultra shiny paint job. I never met the previous owner Don, but I was told he was a nice guy and took good care of the planes.

First recollection was some airplane books in the library at my elementary school followed shortly thereafter by the Baa Baa Black Sheep TV Show and that cemented my love for hte Corsair. Shortly after my dad brought home a Revell 1/48 model of a corsair that we built together and the monkey was firmly lodged on my back
Second Key memory was my first air show in up state NJ (Sussex) in the 80's and seeing Fuddy Duddy, along with Dr. Andersons P40 and a couple of P51 that I are now a blur. I rember they were doing low passes, back when you could actully sit right up next to the taxiway and as the P40 was coming around a P 51 came up from behind and did a barrel roll around her- Nothing has ever sounded so amazing.

Yeah that is a great film. The only two I have ever seen in person is the one in the NMUSAF, and Kermitt Weeks' in the EAA Museum.

I've always had a fascination with flying and aircraft in general. Didn't really come onto the warbird scene until five years ago. That's when I took a flight on a B-17 and I haven't looked back since.

Kudzu - not one here in Charlotte, but there is a B-25 in Ashboro (or used to be, anyway).

When I first saw a T-6 fly here in Norway. That must have been back in 1981-82. Kinda makes an impression on a 12 year old!
