Love the night shots!

Great pics Spooky !
What camera kit are you using ?
Also, with respect to the night shots, are you adding light from either a flash or flood ...or is that just the existing apron lights ?
I have been to OSH ...and my recollection was that its pretty dark in the Warbird park at night !!

Thanks! This year I am shooting with a Canon XSi with basic kit lenses (it was all I could afford so far). For the lighting it depends on where the subject is. It is pretty dark out there but with a long enough exposure you can really pull in a lot of natural light. I have a small flashlight I use to "paint" the aircraft as well.

Well then Al ...double congratulations on your shots ... it just shows you dont need the top of the range camera to get great shots !

What lens wer you using for the ground to air shots though ?

A real basic Canon 55-250mm. Some of them are cropped as I don't have the reach of the big fancy lenses. Maybe next year. I better start putting stuff on ebay again.

Here's Tim's T-6G after I flew her into OSH on Friday morning. First solo into Oshkosh, and in a T-6 to boot! I am still on an adrenaline high!

There were around 15 to 18 Mustangs as I recall. Someone will need to correct me, I'm just guessin'!

A huge THANKS to all who posted pictures! Spooky, I think you need to be a professional photographer. If you aren't already. Garbs comes in second place. Serious talent going on here, for my money.

I'm unable to keep up as well as I'd like, so if I could cheat and just ask...

1. Where's Ol' 927?

2. Ditto for the Collings birds; namely, Witchcraft.

3. Were there any autogyros flying this year?

While I can not answer questions #2 and 3, I can answer regarding the lack of attendance by Ol' 927. EAA and the CAF would like to have her attend as often as possible I suspect, and the squadron enjoys taking her to such events, however it is a very costly proposition. As an example, for Ol' 927 to fly from Addison to OSH, it is approximately 1500 miles round trip. That would equate to about seven hours of flight time, burning 200 gallons an hour, the fuel bill is rather high (probably 5k or more) to say the least, not to mention the other costs associated with flying the old girl.

We also would need to pay for the entire crew to stay in the area for the duration of our stay, feed them etc.. The reason I bring all of this up is that we would get no fuel or appearance fee from either the CAF or EAA, just their gratitude.

As a result it just was not feasible for us to attend this year. In future years, when we are in the area at that time of the year, we will certainly consider attending, but it just wasn't in the cards this year.

Thanks for that, Chris. It is well that "government should be more transparent". Ah, what I mean is that not everybody understands the business angles and other behind-the-scenes dynamics that go into putting cool birds in OSH photo threads on WIX. The more we peanut gallery types know, perhaps the more help we can offer in some way or another in the future. In any case, thanks for the poop.

No problem! There was an extensive series of emails amongst the squadron officers this year when trying to decide whether or not to go, and finally it was decided basically one show for the "show the CAF flag" type where we footed gas bill etc., and that was for Sun N Fun. Maybe next year.

Pogo, "Ol' 927" was in Sioux City, Iowa for an airshow sponsored by the local ANG Wing. Also in attendance were the CAF Corsair, Minnesota Wing B-25J "Miss Mitchell", and Ron Fagen's P-51D. Kevin Eldridge was flying the Mustang for the Heritage Flight. Alan

To add to what Alan said, the ANG, and some local sponsors helped us to defray the costs. From what I have heard so far it was a good little show at SUX where there was no admission, cheap food, and as a result people were apparently very willing to drop donations into our dummy bomb.
