Sen. Clinton, in her weakest moment, whatever that might be, has never looked as ridiculous as Boy George did when he stood on the carrier deck dressed up like a combat pilot and declared that fighting was over in Iraq.

I'm working on them, but I feel that the battle is lost.

He does a great job supporting the troops. I think it was a great moral booster. Besides, he used to fly F-106's! What did Hillary ever do in the service?

F-102s not 106s

Anyway, I think we (self included) got a bit off track and we should get back to if we'd pay $100,000 for a ride on the flat top or who will. I'd hate to have to get spanked by Scott
I'd pay to sail around it, better picture options than on the Carrier.

I expect there will be a little flotilla of pleasure craft doing just that. Should be quite a party.

Also probably another small flotilla to keep them away.
Maybe they'll stop in the East River for a swim call?

Nathan, I don't think as a country we do a very good job of taking care of our troops and I'm talking about substance, not photo opps and campaign rhetoric. Soldiers deserve a decent wage, decent retirement, and especially those who've lost a limb or sight. I'm no expert on this, but as I read it, we don't do enough any more than we value our teachers. Modern war is even worse, we now have not just the 3000 dead( as many as 9-11) but the 20,0000 wounded, many crippled for life. "Support the troops' seems like code for more of the same. How about "Support the Politicians", we bring our young people home and if those like Cheney want a war let them fight it. Yes, Bush rode around in air conditoned !02's, but like me, I did he could have voluntered for combat and did not.I'd have a hard time sleeping if as president I sent other peoples sons and even daughters off to war to kill and be killed when I wasn't wiiling to do it myself.

I wonder how did Abe Lincoln managed? As far as I know, (although I seem to recall some type of military service during an indian war) he did not serve in combat.
Neither did Franklin D. Roosevelt . . . Jimmie Carter . . . I know that Lyndon Johnson did not see combat, although flew a tour of inspection in Australia and some of the Pacific Islands earlier during WW-II . . . dunno about Bill Clinton (but, remember Mogadishu? The Balkans?)
My point, I guess, should be to point out that many a president has sent troops in harm's way, without having himself, been in the line of fire.
Respectfully,
Tulio

I agree, but at lest W. Bush knew a little about Military life. Even if he did not see combat, still got to honor his service. We honor every other vet. Why not G. W. Bush?
Cheers Bill,

Bill, I know W. volunteered for Viet Nam duty as it regarded the F102 in Viet Nam.
Two factors were against him. He didn't have enough hours in the 102 to qualify for the program. The F102 was deemed unsuitable for Viet Nam needs and was going to be withdrawn.
He did sit alert here at EFD as part of the Continental Defense Force. He was flying a single engine 102 on intercepts over the Gulf, some of these were flown at night. The 147th lost 102s and crew while flying these missions so it wasn't totally safe.

Prince William of Clinton seemed to sleep well.. at least when he wasn't busy with other 'work".
