Don't forget about all of those American dollars that have sent north of the border. Of course he didn't bother to mention the Canadian dollars going south, but then that would defeat a perfectly good arguement!

Ditto Mike. I hope O’Leary learns how much he has pissed off some Canadians with his remarks. He should have been thinking about how much Canadian dollars have been spent in the Belleville area by Canadians over the years attending Thunder. We rent hotels, buy food, support the show, hangar rebuild and the museum. For the sake of the YAFM and Thunder he should have kept his mouth closed.

Don’t even get me going about the photo he posted of the Lancaster landing at YIP. After being denied access to fly formation on them did he not think buzzing over the Lanc on final would not be a little distracting to the crew on board when they are landing at an unfamiliar airport.

There is just so many comments in his article that is just wrong and I am doing my best to keep my mouth shut and not comment on it.

True enough Mike.

Wonder what the YAM position is on this artical, do they feel the same as Mr. O'Leary?

Then he wonders why the crew did not want to work with him for a photo flight! Does this guy understand what the Lancaster means to us Canadians? Maybe to the Americans the Lancaster is just another British bomber, but to us many young Canadians died in that type aircraft 60 years ago and it would be a real tragedy to see it damaged or lost because some inconsiderate photo crew pulled some unsafe acts.

Again it would be interesting to hear the YAM's point of view on this. In the artical he made it out like the YAM was on his side.

If I was the YAM I would not want to comment on this here. Not matter what you say you run the risk of offending someone, and I am sure they don't want to do that. I would guess they are not happy about sort of being caught in the middle on this. Their priorities are to run a great show (which they do) and rebuild a museum (which they will) and don't want anything to get in the way of that.

Whereas I'm looking forward to the show, I'm a little concerned about the change in dates. It may not effect many fans, but may upset my schedule due to coming right after Independence Day. I guess I'll have to wait and see.
I also want to mention something else that might tick some people off, but I'll take my chances. Basically, I'm not a big fan of themes. I've always loved the B-25 and feel that seeing several at the same show might be pretty cool. But I also feel that too much of a good thing can be bad in the long run. Once you've seen so may of one type at a show, what's left for the next show? Seeing all the B-17s and TBMs was nice, but now seeing just one or two of either type seems to hold less excitement for me.
Now, before I get flamed for my opinion, I fully understand that I have the option of not attending. But, it ain't THAT bad!! I will still try to be there next year. I am simply saying that a wide variety of birds makes me happier.

Mike,

You summed it up perfectly!

Our focus is on running a great show and rebuilding the museum. Period.

I think it would also be prudent to inform everyone that we (the air show directors) have a strong and positive continuing relationship with the entire Canadian contingent (Vintage Wings of Canada, CWH, The Russell Group, CHAA, etc., etc.) that attended Thunder 06 and we look forward to their participation at our future shows.

Nuff said. :D

Hey Kevin, why the move to 1 month prior?

The date change worked out better for some of the participants we have lined up.

Ya I figured that you guys would plead the 5th.

One thing you guys could improve on is the layout of the sponsors and vendors. I know they help pay the bills but it would be nice to have them more towards the back and not block the view of the air displays for the paying people that come out to see the aircraft. This would probally help with all the fighting for position along the show line that happened during the 06 show.

Just a thought

Dave,
Thanks for the input.
Certainly an issue we have already addressed and I think everyone will be very pleased with our "re-worked" site for 2007.

Dave;
I defence of the sponsors, they are paying customers and must be accomodated so that they return to sponsor the event year after year.

It's a hard thing to mix well, public and sponsors.

Has anyone thought to get a group of WIX'ers together and get a sponsorship tent at Thunder?
Some sponorships aren't too expensive and you'd have front row access!
Never hurts to ask, but if you had X amount of guys and divide the total sponsorship, it might work out!!!!

We've talked about it for Geneseo, but not Thunder (yet).

That is why they need positive press for the event and not negative remarks about the people who attend the event and participate in the event.

Did he really need to write a whole page of negativity about the event because he did not get to shoot one aircraft A2A out of all the aircraft that attended the event.

One thing I learned at Thunder is those potogs are a tough bunch! I'd sooner cut in front of a woman at a shoe sale or a cop at a donut store! I think the picture of Tim with the rifle is probably him taking aim at a competitor. Mike has been around Warbirds I think as long as I have; I'd think he must realize how valueable, emotionally and $ wise the Lanc. is He should come on and give his side, maybe he prearranged to fly over the Lanc, maybe he was well above it? Anyway someone else must have been at the controls. Maybe he just got too anxious to get the scoop on the shot didn't think it out, and he owes an apology. I don't know, I haven't seen the aritcle or photo.
