JimH wrote:THANK YOU Mark! We have debated on 3 nuts, some see it and some don't. There has to be a story behind the name. Toulouse (two loose) Nuts and 3 depicted. I think that drawing gets us one step closer to an answer. So far this is at the top of the pile :)

Jim

Other than the obvious play on "Two Loose", what is the significance of the name? Toulouse France? Did any of the pilots or crew chiefs have an association? Toulouse Street New Orleans?

After looking these two shots over for quite a while I think I might have figured it out... It is two nuts indeed but there appears to be a bolt partially threaded in the top nut with a ? and arrows pointing in each direction on its head.

That's my two cents, feel free to make change...

Great shot of Spam Can, Mark! Should add that to the Registry listing.
(I know what you guys are going through, trying to find that one photo - can you say "Paducah B-17"? )

Chris,
Nice catch on that one being Spam Can :D

I've said this before but...I always think the P-51 looks it's best when there's a minimum of ornamentation paint.

I don't have a dog in the fight but, in one photo I see three nuts. Another photo I see 2. In a third photo I see 4 nuts.

Are we all nuts?
