On previous page, Taigh Ramey posted a color photo of a B-17 with crew and bombs displayed in foreground. What model is this that has what looks like intakes
on the engine cowl top? Early model?

That's one of the YB-17s in early wartime OD/Gray.

Why does Sally B, a B-17G have incorrect wing and fuselage insignia for a late model B-17?

Leftovers from filming Memphis Belle.

I understand repainting a B-17 isn't cheap, but c'mon! Get some accurate insignias on her at least!

It is accurate - to the movie. What's next, complain that it has the wrong top turret shell for a late model?

Some incident photos I picked up recently, working to find the ID of the Paducah plane (it's now narrowed down to one of six), verifying there were planes in the 42-102800-up batch that did not have cheek guns:

42-102877 4-1-45 Laredo AAF, TX (lost a prop which hit the nose)
Image

42-102894 1-30-45 Hobbs AAF, NM (plane #10, upper turret bubble came loose and hit the port stabilizer - this is one of the six possible serials)
Image

42-102895 8-1-44 Hobbs AAF, NM (plane #98, crash landing)
