Re: Pres. Kennedy's AF1 (SAM 26000) going to Texas?

APG 85,

Thanks for the link to the article about the Jetstar at the ranch.
I stand corrected. If the Jetstar at the ranch is 61-2490, it was one of our fleet
of 11 Jetstars we had at Andrews. Note the comment in the article by Jim Cross
(a friend of mine) when he said, "they have a Jetstar at Robbins AFB and they need
to go to Robbins and bring it here to the ranch". Jim is refering to 61-2488 which
was actually the Jetstar LBJ flew in as President. You all need to read Jim Cross's
book; "AROUND THE WORLD WITH LBJ" to get a taste of what Jim and others at
Andrews had to deal with.

We kept the VC-6 (King Air) in Hangar 6 at Andrews AFB during the Johnson administration. We flew it down to Bergstrom
whenever LBJ was going to be there so he could use it as he wanted while in Texas. Here is a photo we took over the Maryland countryside in 1968

Thanks for the correction. I'd heard it was based at Bergstrom and used to fly VIPs from the ranch to Austin.

Also, do you know the Beech cn? Someone on this or the FlyPast forum has been looking for it. He says the common one given for the ac doesn't fit with the year purchases.

JohnB,

Don't know the Beech number. We just used the Air Force number for maintenance and most flight operations.

Read Jim's book; "Around The World With LBJ" . It doesn't give the Beech number but has a lot of other information.
