It's now under a roof, sort of...

My response to the above thread on there is this. I am posting it here too as any posts not praising NASA seem to go away on that forum

I watched this whole thing and bit my tongue a ton, but this is really bad.
FACTS
1)They don't have the money in place to build a building
2)They don't even own the land they want to put the building on.

3)It's in a temporary structure that looks bad, takes away from a very historic war ship, and despite what some will have you think does not provide protection from corrosion.

4)The Shuttle has been damaged. Then a spray paint job done to announce all better.

5)It has been subjected to salt water spray. They say they have plans on hosing it down. What was that weeks ago that the spray was hitting it, and for days. Too late. The damage is done and still going. The NASM Boeing that went in the water was there for hours, same with a restored WWII Corsair. Both were brought out of the water just a few hours after they went in, and both had corrosion issues.

6)"We have enough trouble keeping up with our planes"-Director of the USS Intrepid Museum at the Mutual Concerns meeting at Dayton.

I hate to sound negative, but I have had enough of this game of, "Gee come on guys it's not so bad." It's aweful.

And my post was pulled.

Chris, our Rep Pete Olsen, has passed a law that requires NASA to do an annual assessment of the Shuttle display process. It is aimed squarely at Intrepid/New York. Pete's a former P-3 pilot.

OMG, it's actually worse than I thought it would be.  As someone correctly stated on collectspace (that post hasn't been removed, yet) it looks like a giant zit on the Intrepid. Thanks for ruining two national treasures at once, epic fail.

Then there are places that actually built a structure for a Shuttle...

At least we get the Full Fuselage Trainer delivered by a few Super Guppy visits.

Collect space is a forum apparently heavily monitored and founded by a extremely well-connected guy who seems to know everyone in the space field. I have had plenty of my posts pulled there too, especially ones that dare to show space collectors being quite foolish when spending many times over the prices for things that are currently made just to be the first to get them (the classic was the guy who spent almost $400 for a set of three patches made by the 747 shuttle transporter crew for the last display moves. The patches retailed for $6.00 each!)
