Thanks to all of those that supported this project and the generous contribution of the Hamilton family foundation and Air Spray we are able to acquire this amazing aircraft.

The actual aircraft is ex Dutch, Lockheed #5805.

It will be restored to represent an RCAF/CAF aircraft, candidates are

RCAF 12635
CAF 104631
CAF 104651

All operated by 417 Squadron at CFB Cold Lake during 417's time as the CF-104 OTU. All of these aircraft were lost in service with all pilots ejecting safely.

They were chosen as to not conflict with existing aircraft, to tell the story of the pilots and crews (including the risks they faced) and the story of North West Industries here in Edmonton that overhauled and did the heavy maintenance on the Starfighters.

Final selection will be made based on the provenance of the aircraft and the history of the crews. Final selection will be made by the board while we await the arrival of the aircraft.

It's original history with the Netherlands will also be presented in it's display.

Thanks to all that supported this project.

Tom

Tom,

You know, by informing the WIX gang of your acquisition of this 104 there is a preconception that you will post pictures of the arrival of this airframe including all subsequent restoration stages.

Tom,

I found some more pictures from my old Airshow programs. Also, seeing that you want to tell the story about Northwest Industries involvement with the CF-104, I found an old ad from 1982.

Cheers,
Greg

Update on the Starfighter acquisition...

Thought I would let everyone know its on the boat!

After over (1) year of fighting paperwork across (2) continents and (3) countries!
(Don't now if I every want to do this again...then again depends on the aircraft)

Due to arrive Edmonton March 26th.

On arrival, (3) containers, it will be unloaded and immediately go out for
paint stripping.

The final markings to be determined but the current front runner is 104651.

Once we have a realistic completion date we will be setting a roll out date
and Celebration and possibly a meet and greet for all that were involved
with F-104. Air Crew, Ground Crew and North West Industries personnel.

Keep you posted

Thanks again to the Hamilton family, Airspray and all those that made this project happen!

Tom

After a tremendous amount of research and consultation with the Curator and Board of Directors the soon to be received Starfighter at the Alberta Aviation Museum is going to be restored to represent...

CF-104D MkII serial number 104651
Originally:
Starfighter 12651 (RCAF)
No. 6 Squadron Strike/Recce OTU Cold Lake, Alberta
583A-5321 Lockheed
Came into service26-Jun-63

Re serial numbered as 104651 (CAF)
No. 417 Squadron, Cold Lake, Alberta
583A-5321 Lockheed Aircraft
Crashed 24-June-1980 engine failure due to bird strike, both pilots ejected successfully

Crew at time of incident

Pilot in Command:
Canadian Armed Forces
Captain (at the time) Rick Wall served in the Canadian Air Force and flew the CF-104 with 441 Squadron in Germany & 417 Squadron at Cold Lake, Alberta. Surpassed 2000 Starfighter hours.
Ejected successfully from CF104D 104651 in 1980 after a bird strike.

Second Pilot
Luftwaffe
Captain/ Hauptmann (at the time) H Riedel
(currently seeking additional information)
Ejected successfully from CF104D 104651 in 1980 after a bird strike.

The reason this aircraft has been chosen is as follows:

1) Our aircraft is substantially the same aircraft short of some avionics details.

2) It was an Alberta based aircraft operating from Cold Lake it's complete life

3) It is one of three dual seat Starfighters lost in service with 417 Squadron, so it will
not be confused with an existing aircraft.

4) There were no fatalities in the loss incident

5) It has the most interesting story with a RCAF Pilot in Command and a
Luftwaffe pilot in training in the rear.

As such it provides an Edmonton story (having been serviced at North West Industries), an Alberta story with 6 Squadron Strike/Recce Operational Training Unit, the Canadian Starfighter story, an International story with the Canadian/German crew at the time of loss and it's Dutch history as Starfighter D5805 of the RNAF.

This allows us to make what we believe is the most complete presentation
of the aircraft type.

The final decision will be which era colours the aircraft will be presented in:
RCAF/CAF Polished aluminum, link to picture of exact aircraft:

http://www.916-starfighter.de/916sta...e/104wC651.jpg

or
CAF Camouflage, link to similar aircraft:
http://www.i-f-s.nl/exerc/TIGER/104785.jpg

But that decision will be made after the paint is tripped and the skin condition is determined.

Which do you prefer?
- Polished
-Camouflage

Go Camo. There are lots (compared to camo) of polished CF-104s around already.

Cheers,

Tanker 336

Sorry I haven't posted, been busy working through customs issues.

The 104 arrived in Edmonton on March 24th and has been tied up with customs etc.

She will arrive in her containers tomorrow morning (March 29th), we are waiting for the exact arrive time.

So finally after almost 18months...she will be here.
