Mike, I've heard that the P-63 wasn't "permitted" to be used by the USSR against the Germans by agreement. Still, given the times (though not desperate, the Soviet's were looking to drive home their "win"), and the USSR's track history for breaking agreements, wouldn't one suspect that the P-63 made its way to the active front? Wiki (once again, not the best source ever) seems to suggest as much. I'd like to see the pics to be certain of course. Surely they're out there.

C-F Geust is recognized as one of the most knowledgable experts on VVS Cobra use. Geust believes the P-63 served on the Eastern Front, although in limited numbers. Consider post #7 of the following link and draw your own conclusions.

Tennessean Steve Sevier bought and flew back from Russia one of the first AN-2s in the U.S. This was 25 years or so ago and before the iron curtain fell. While flying and spending time in Russia he said he saw scores and scores of P-63s. In parks , gate guards, etc. Often driving down a village road you would commonly see sheds and outbuildings that didnt look quite right. Upon closer inspection they would be made from P-63 wings or other lend lease aircraft.
Would it be possible, legal in Russia, for a couple of yanks to spend a couple of months over there with a car exploring and chasing down rumors?

Some of our members from Delta have collaborated with some folks in Russia on our Dixie Wing P-63...now that it will on the wheels in 2012 we may have to go back there...

I think it would be possible to do it, problem is still logistics. GETTING a car and a local to haul you around is the problem. Would probably cost a couple $100 a day to do it and really I'd bet you'd need to buy a car....... Country simply still doesn't have a lot of infra structure once you get away from downtown big city.....
