The F-4 Phantom has a Mig Kill in Dec. of 1972 when they tok out a Mig-21 in aerial Combat.
I believe the crew names were Brunson and Pickett.

The New England weather has proved once again that you really can't display these fragile aircraft outdoors.

I just wish that someone would get the P-38 at McGuire AFB out of the weather. What a waste.

i stopped by the air musuem today in the pouring rain and fog. I couldn't find a trace of the f-100, a-10 warthog, f4-phantom or the mig! Maybe their in storage? Also, i was paying attention to the f4u-4,( which is no surprise.) I noticed there really wasn't a tail wheel. It looked to be just a small solid rubber tire really torn up. I think in the early corsair's there was solid rubber rear tires......right? But on this xf4u-4 it's not your typical tire. Any info?

They are all in the new cold storage building next to the restoration hangar. The F-105 & Bell 47 are in there too.

do they still have an avenger somewhere in storage? I always heard of a p-51 as well, but never saw it. I really wish that wildcat was next to the hellcat and corsair. Sort of like naval history. What's up with the corsair's tail wheel?

Avenger is in storage along with the P-51, though the 51 will be moving out for restoration as soon as the A-26 is done.

The P-51 is Anson Johnson's N13Y. It won the 1948 Thompson Trophy Race and was then modified with the radiator removed and placed in the gun bays. It has never been restored and was missing it's original low altitude Mosquito Merlin (a -223 or -224 i think). It will be restored as a racer.

The TBM was on display in the outdoor display prior to the Tornado. It was rolled over and badly damaged. It's currently in the storage building.

I think I may have some bad photos of the TBM & B25 in the outside display, after the tornado hit.
Post later, if I find them.
