Spanner, flying around with that canopy closed will make you soft. Next thing is folks will be wanting to have football games in domed stadiums!
A funny story about open canopies. Early in his career future Luftwaffe ace and Gen. Adolph Galland was stuck on assigment in a division that only had biplanes, not fighters.
He got a friend who was a doctor to write him a letter, that said he had a medical condition such that he should not fly in open cockpit airplanes, thus he got moved into 109s to the detriment of about a hundred allied pilots.
I guess the doc never considered cigars or bullets as bad for his health.

I don't know if you have ever read Len Morgan's paperback book on the P-51, all about his introduction to the Mustang and a WW II combat vet bomber pilot after the war when the Guard had Mustangs. He was a nice guy, a fine writer, and it's a great book. There is a section in the book about flying Fleets as his basic training in Canada.
