Re: B-29 S/N 42-65377 history needed - just brought her home.

But, definitively it was on an aircraft not a spare or gunnery trainer. It was on a B-29 that was modified as a TB-29 and then used as a ground target at China Lake. The pieces of my evaluation are pretty accurate. The hard part is narrowing down which TB-29 she was attached to based on the known serial number list at China Lake and B-29-35-MO 44-27298 “Full House” B-29-35-MO 44-27304 “Up An’ Atom” fit all of the criteria in relation to the contract number which is stamped on the data plate. These details aren't just made up.

Miss America '62 was not in night camouflage when photographed at China Lake and the tail section was mostly undamaged. My best guess would have me believe it had to have come from one of the two Silverplate machines at this point.

Oh, the possibilities.......it'll be interesting to see if the data plate on Bockscar brings forth further info.

PM sent, Van.

A good discussion (with photo's) on the Silverplate aircraft we had awhile back on WIX...

A piece of Up an' Atom would be a neat find as this aircraft was renamed Dave's Dream and dropped the Bikini Atoll bomb after the war...

I decided to re-do this thread due to all of the misinformation and confusion that I started with posting this tail as B-29 42-65377. Thank you all for posting your helpful information. I took all of your info and compared it to my reference material and posted it here:

Did you have any luck identifying your tail sections?

I think I saw a post on Questmasters facebook page recently that he did indeed identify an airframe to go along with one of the tail turrets.

Hopefully this link will work.
