I just saw the video. What a sight! Thanks guys, it will be a blast seeing her back in the air. I am sure there wasn't a dry eye on the ramp. Or in the air for that matter!

Makes me think we can do just about anything if we try hard enough. It also make me very proud to be a member of the CAF.

Congratulations,

The PBJ Crew

8) Awesome news. Thanks to all who worked on her or otherwise donated time and money to get her back where she belongs.

Congrats to all for a job well done!!!

So is there any noticeable difference in performance or flight characteristics with the new engines?

And I can understand not wanting to make the first flight on August 6th, a very important day in history - Lucille Ball's birthday!

:axe: OW! Hey! Quit it! Come on, guys, fer chrissakes...

Chris
That is what the next two flights will determine. We have a plane to run the aircraft at particular settings and take measurements so that we will know how to flight plan. It appears from what I have heard from those aboard yesterday there was an increase in speed, how much we will find out over the next couple of days.

From the other FIFI thread:

Today has been a great day. All 4 new engines ran perfect and extremely cool. Our overheating issues (old engines) are gone forever. We can now leave the power up and the airspeeds slower in climb. Held 1300 FPM for as long as we wanted at 170 IAS. Climb power in level flight gave us 235 IAS with the cowl flaps open. Closing things up tight should add another 10 mph.

I check WIX at least twice a day. I mean, come on! So have patience and help a guy out here, wouldja?? :Hangman:

(I get a vague feeling this post comes across crappy, but I swear it'd be just fine if we were all in the same room.....)

That is awesome news! One of my first aviation memories is when my mom let me skip grade school and took me out to the airport to see FiFi when she stopped there on a cross-country tour. Somewhere I have a photo of a six-year-old me in the pilot's seat.

So, how much to get a B-29 type rating?

GREAT JOB to all the folks who put all their hard work into Fi Fi to get the motors hung and all the other maintenance!

Nope, seems to have gone pretty quiet. I hope it isn't making metal.

Dad bling it, I wonder what y'all are talking about? Where are the reports?? Please excuse me for sounding pissy, but this is huge news to lots of folks out here. Come on, talk to us!

Oh god how I miss Gary. He was so wonderful about this exact sorta thing: reporting back so clearly to the peanut gallery even though there must've been a zillion other things to attend to. Oh well. Please do understand that I deeply appreciate all the boys and girls who bust their butts in hot hangars. I do plenty of it myself, promise I understand........

But ...... come on, talk to us! :)
