so what in the HECK happened to her from 02 to 09? Why is she is such disprepair.

I've been involved with the restoration for the last two months. I'll post an update tomorrow night.

But why let her get in such bad shape over the last 7 years.?., she made it that far in flyable condition!!!!

That engine on the test stand looks like it came off of a C-121, look at the scoop on the top of the cowling. I could be wrong though.

It could very well be from a C-121. I was just told by the folks at MAAM that it was from a 119. No biggie either way. It's still cool.

From what I recall, while the plane was flyable, it certainly was not in great shape when it first arrived in Frederick. The now-defunct CAF squadron started on the restoration (turret area, bay doors were among the areas worked on, IIRC). When the squadron folded, the plane sat outside, exposed to the elements of mid-Atlantic weather, which is a lot of heat and humidity in the summer, and a "wet" cold winter. It doesn't take a whole lot of exposure to that kind of weather to take its toll on an airframe, especially one that lived the hard life of a tanker/sprayer.

Where are you guys working on her- would love to come and help= am a lost soul that was heavily involved at LSFM when I lived in Texas but for the last 3 years have been going through 100ll and W120 withdrawl.

PM me and I'll email you contact info to get involved. It's located in Airville, PA on a small farm. Really good group of guys to be involved with. I can't wait to see her fly at an airshow and tell the pilot that I had a hand in bringing her back to life.

I'm sure that this group or any others are more than happy to take your donation of time or money to help get their aircraft in and out of the cold? Unfortunately, there are more airframes out there than $ to keep them all in optimal situations.

I thought I'd post some new pictures of the progress being made by Jack Kosko and his team. I'm not familiar with the process but they "sodablasted" the airframe. We're hopeful she'll move inside soon.

The partially restored turret will be moving up to join the airframe in the coming weeks. I'll do my best to keep posting them as they come in. A HUGE thanks to everyone involved so far. (I think there are even a couple of WIXers helping out) She'll be back in the air in due time we hope!
