This should fix it:
Go to 'Profile' top right of the header, under 'FAQ'.

Scroll down, down down to:

Always allow BBCode:
Always allow HTML:
Always enable Smilies:

Set 'em all to 'yes'.

Click 'submit' at the bottom.

Should be good to go.

Me too. Ernie McDowell saw her during her training days and he recalled that she still carried what was probably the original nose artwork. He clearly remembered the different colours of the swimsuit - blue one side, red the other.

During her training years she carried her nose art along with the code J5 on the nose. I hear it was always a big treat for the guys to fly her.

Blaming Chris for the bad policys of the AFM and your issues with the leaders of said organization is like blaming Col Sanders for the crappy "Grilled" chicken there serving at KFC!
  :)

Sometimes the forum turns into a bit of "Whack-A-Mole", you stick your head up you're gonna get whacked!!!! People's tempers and frustrations get the better of them and the anonymity of the web causes things to be said or implied that probably would not be said face-to-face (by most... )

The restoration of "the Belle" is very cool and the attempt to find more photos of her in years gone by is a worthy thing. There have got to be a lot of photos moldering away in footlockers and attics out there that will just be tossed as the owners pass. It is up to us warbird "NUTS" to try preserve what we can and HELP were we can.

Let us try NOT to whack the messenger!!! Please!

I'm confused, so are you saying blame Chris for the crappy tasting fried chicken?

Sun Jul 05, 2009 10:11 am

Sorry Chris, but it was either you or my nachos.

What was this thread about again?

I've read the 'Belle came to Brookley AFB in Mobile, AL
on her warbond tour. I've looked for photos shot of her
there for YEARS without success. I hope some turn up
with this search.

Chris leaves it in the fryer too long sometimes.

Cedric,

Do you have any information on where or when that overhead photo was taken? The C-47 in the background has the later national insignia, so I'm guessing the Belle was not too far from becoming a trainer at MacDill when this photo was taken. Thanks for posting it!

According to the caption in The Man Who Flew the Memphis Belle the picture was taken was at Dayton...how appropriate. No date though.

Thanks for the location, RCAF. I enlarged the photo and the C-47 national insignia appears to have the blue surround, so that would make the time somewhere in late summer or fall of '43.
