Just wanted to say that the book "Restoring museum aircraft" by Robert Mikesh of the NASM is absolutely fascinating, in the book he explains that the restoration process is to hopefully preserve the airplanes for hundreds of years to come. Shows the how and why, and the steps taken to preserve originality. Shows how the engines and systems are pickled and preserved, etc. One point he makes is that they do NOT look for airworthy parts neccesarily because those can still be used by the flyers..
Very interesting reading especially if you can follow some of these restorations as they happen.
