Don't know the answer to the first question...yet. I believe the others from Camp Bullis are at the Texas Air Museum in Slayton, TX.

67Cougar is right on. I grew up watching the NJ ANG fly the F-105B in the mid-late 70's through their conversion to the F-4D in the early 80's (and eventually KC-135's in the late 80's after I'd already left for college). Those B-models are probably one of the reasons I ended up in aviation.

You can spot a B model by the tiny black radome in comparison to the big 'ole dome on the D, F, or G. Not aware of any B's flown in combat but, as stated, the Thunderbirds flew the B-model for a short time - six shows, I believe, in 1964. Structural failure and a fatality led to the team returning to the F-100. I was told that most, if not all, of the former T-bird airframes ended up with the NJ ANG at McGuire.

I beg to differ. Look at the picture at this
http://www.hdc-nm.com/jimi/f105.html and you'll see the enlarged spine of the 105 in question. Page down to the section "Up on her Feet" and you can see it has an enlarged saddle on the hump.

Pogmusic, those are photos of different airframes. The "TH" tailcode was the Carswell unit flying the D-model - some of which were Thunderstick-modded.

I thought that link came from the A/C that were removed from the field. Granted the one remaining may be a 105B. I was refering to the removed a/c. Sorry.

The F 101 in the picture is a B model which was a two place air defense interceptor. The recon version was a single seater, RF 101

The Voodoo is definitely a "B" model. I just aired up the tires and moved it yesterday. We tried to move the 105, but we couldn't get one of the tires to air up. They're gonna try again today.

We're having to move them because the airport is getting resurfaced, and naturally, they're wanting to start on the ramp where the jets are. :roll: But I've worked a little deal with the Texas Air Museum and there'll be a couple changes with the status of these two jets....hopefully for the better. I've taken on the task of prepping the 105 for it's eventual public display. The talk is that they're gonna put it on a stick at the front of the airport, but we may just leave it on the ground. That's all still being ironed out.

I'll give details on the 101 later. ;-)

Well, I didn't want to post anything until all the documents were signed, but since that happened today, here's the latest...........


FOR TRADE: 1959 McDonnell Douglas F-101B, Voodoo, S/N 59-0429. One owner, low miles. Only flown to church on Sundays. Tires have been aired up and the aircraft has been towed, so wheel bearings are fine. Needs minor buffing to qualify for "Best Voodoo" award at International Vintage Jet Show. All trades considered.


Well, as you can see, I've gone and acquired myself a Voodoo now. The paperwork to sign possession of the aircraft over to me has been completed, so I'm ready to see who out there might be interested in working a trade. The Voodoo however, will still technically belong to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. We read the paperwork over and over and over, and I still believe that I could've obtained the aircraft outright, but the NMUSAF has set a precedence by proving that they don't care what something says on paper and will take back anything they want. And since I clearly cannot afford that kind of legal battle, just getting it signed over as a permanent loan is good enough for me. I do, however, have the authority to sign over possession of the aircraft (as a permanent loan) to whomever I work a deal with. So, if you know of a museum, eccentric individual, or whoever, that just "has to have" an F-101 Voodoo, let me know and we'll see if we can work something out. ;-)
