I'll see what I can do about it. She's headed into the hospital tonight to be preped for heart valve replacement so I'm going to be a little distracted for the next two weeks. I will be over at their place off and on until she gets home from the hospital so I might have a few minuets here and there to scan in some pages if I can get her scanner to work.

So he convinced the Squadron commander to let him fly the squadron hack- a Stinson L-5- to pick up the mail because he was the only sober one. He flew the L-5 around getting mail for several months. When the squadron commander realized he was unrated, or got guilty about letting an un-rated pilot fly around, he wrote a recommendation for him to go to flight school. He passed and flew F-86's in Korea and got a few kills.

F/O, 2Lt, 1Lt glider pilots were rated to fly the single engine Ls.
1Lt Tip Randolph was rated to fly Ls. Tip did not go to flight school after coming back to the states. He did not fly jets, he did not fly in Korea. He did fly the multi-state mail route in the L-5 in 1946.
