No idea.

Let's say you're right - that doesn't make you a bad guy or the plane worthless. Even the Smithsonian goes to great lengths to document what pieces on their plane may not be exactly correct or original.

I didn't "study" the pix but I thought the B-17 looked pretty good. Educate us so we know - what's not accurate?

Well, since you asked..

As you say, it's a great-looking machine, and they've done to a fantastic amount of work to put her back into military condition..that's why I was hesitant to say anything. I tend to cut flying aircraft some slack, since the crews/owners have enough on their plates just keeping them in the air..authentic interior colors are way down the priority list.

As for the interior colors, almost every pic I've seen of a wartime fort shows the waist section bare metal inside (silver paint would be acceptable on a restoration for preservation purposes.) The flight deck, nose compartment, and radio room should be dull dark green, with olive drab padding. The bombay would most likely be nuetral gray or bare metal. The most accurate B-17 restoration in terms of interior colors that I've seen is B-17E "My Gal Sal."

I assume that is still the plan and am thankful they are both inside and not stored in their parking lot, like the B29 was prior to the current restoration work start.
I'd heard back before they built the new "Courage" wing, that the B-17 was going to go in a building in that spot. Did them buying that fighter collection change their plans? Where would they even put the 17 and 29 now if they had the money to build a building for them?

IIRC, a few years back there was talk of a future land swap or land donation from Boeing for a new hangar for the B17 & B29 (and perhaps others?).
Caveat - It was talk related to me from people volunteering at the museum, but I have never seen any official notice/announcement. So, I may be very incorrect.

I know there's talk of a new building across the street. They just built a really nice walkway over the road. And if things go really well (No, I don't know anything) they're hoping to have to build a home for a Space Shuttle over there someday too!

Mustang Driver,

Those photos on page one of this thread show the B-17 interior color that you were asking about.

That is the Chromate Green color.

Very nice pics! I will be there Monday for the first hand look as I know the pictures don't do it justice!

Think I asked this in another thread, but now that a couple of 42-29782's wartime photos have come to light, will the name Patricia and the "BA" tail codes be added?

Heavens, Chris-----we couldn't have a TRAINER paint scheme on a warbird could we!!!!!!!??????

I'd love to see her accurate markings applied too. That isn't the only bomber used in Second or Third Air Force still around, but I highly doubt either will ever see an accurate paint scheme. It would be a nice tip of the hat to that part of the war effort.
