That's not a bad idea. Right now if you want to see something back in the Cold War gallery you have to do a fair bit of walking. Doesn't bother me, as I usually make at least one circuit through each building on every visit, and spend most of my time in the WWII gallery, but once the museum gets a fourth and maybe fifth building, access is going to become a problem, and the current entrance lobby could turn into a major bottleneck.
It's amazing to see the museum today, and the expansion plans. When I first visited in 1978, it was just one building, split into two galleries...and I thought it was huge!
As for running out of things to do once every desired type is collected, I think the current backlog of restoration projects will keep the museum occupied for at least the next couple of generations!
