I figured it was a good sign when I saw the hangar door open from the hwy. as I drove up this morning. Beautiful skies and the Curtiss went up on her second flight around noon.

Oh, man, those photos have sent me back into Full (Non-Faking) Meg Ryan Mode!

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! :)

Congrats to everyone involved in the restoration. I agree, the plain OD is a refreshing change of pace.

Oh yeah, THAT'S the stuff right there. :D

Chiming in with a deep and abiding appreciation for the factory-fresh finish with no shark teeth... what a beautiful plane, a real stunner.

Congratulations to all involved!

WOW!

Wow,wow, wow!

Were there many 2-seat versions built? How many of them are still airworthy?

Excuse my ignorance, but how does one get into the rear seat? Does it open in the back or does one need to contort their body through the front?

Beautiful plane!

Good question sixcarbs,

I never thought of how people get in and out, but I presume they done some sort of acrobatic maneuver to get in. I figure the canopy also slides back further than usual.

Than again, I've never seen a two seater P-40 in person.

Can anyone else fill us in?

Our Duel Control P-40N rear canopy is hinged on the right side and lifts/folds over the top. When it's closed it's held in place by 2 pins. I believe Chris did the same thing.

Our P-40E has a folding front seat that you climb over to get into the back.
