has you can see by the photos #666 really didn't have a special gun set-up. Many had the extra armament

That's Hollywood for you! You probably missed nothing..they did.

My thinking was 2 per R/L cheek area, but it would be dependant on what kind of support structure/decking
these guys could cobble together to handle the shock. Also, consideration was made for the bombsight.

If you went with one .50 per cheek..how about another pair of ventral .50's firing downward in
support of the ball turret if he was focused elsewhere? Forward of the tailwheel near the crew door...
similar to the position Gary replicated on B-24A? All positions don't have to be manned, but must be "handy" to
a nearby gunner when the threat changes.

The belly is rather limited in defense from a vertical attack from below by multiple aggressors.

Note that with the nose .50s they had to move the window ball mount back because they're wasn't any room and it's a .30 mount. There just wasn't room for all that cr*p. The nose is cramped to begin with. Now added 2 nose .50s and their mounts, feed system, ammo ect. Add the fixed .50, mount, feed system & ammo. Add the 2 .30s on each side plus their ammo. Now add the bombing system. Oops almost forgot add 2 people. That there is like trying to stuff 10 pounds of sh*t into a 5 pound bag   I don't recall much armor on 17s so what did they take out???

when you say add the .30's on each side are you refering to the cheek guns? twin .50 on the nose and .30's on each side ?
